Plan on buying a large format color printer - help

I have read from time to time about large format color printers.  I wanted to get some feedback on a good printer.  Right now I hire almost all my printing done from a large company in Chicago which you have to be a member.  While they will print 1 or 2 and the cost is no more then if I buy 20-50 sometimes I find it easier and more private on what I am doing to print in house.  In Chicago there is a large refurbishing company for large format printers and they deliver, give you a 3 years service plan and train you for 1 day on its use.  Cost is between $2000-10K depending on the machine.  If I do this I want to stay under $4 if that is possible as it will not be used a ton.  Also is there any quirks with using a Mac?  I own a PC desktop still in the box that I could dedicate to it if the thought is that it would be better.
