ok a new ------ program SK1 its a free vector edit program

Recommended Posts

hey i did a search for sk1 on the forum and it has never been talked about.

it was built in Linux format but its available in windows now.

all we have is Linux computers so i cant test out the windows ver to see how well it works compared to Linux and the other programs it can replace

as it is described it can replace Adobe and Corel and can open both formats -- so if its true that would be great for starters that want free software

we use a graphtec and not sure but it would be nice if graphtec add-ons would work in this too that would be awsome then another free design software and then a free cutting program -- (linux already has a free cutting program)

GOT TO LOVE OPEN SOURCE

sK1 is an open-source illustration program that can substitute professional proprietary software like Corel Draw or Adobe Illustrator*. Currently GNU/Linux is our main development platform, but porting on Win32 and MacOS X desktops has been scheduled. sK1 supports professional publishing features, such as CMYK color, separations, ICC color management and press-ready PDF output.

here is the link please http://sk1project.org/

if you try it can you please post how it works

CDR Explorer is a research tool for CorelDraw file formats. It was used to create a CDR import filter for sK1 Editor and UniConvertor. This tool is written on Python and works under GNU/Linux, MacOS X and Win32.

When I posted that I didn't realize at the time that the sk1 is just a linux program the other program that is on the website I believe its all code - you would have to type all the commands out manually sorry for the confusion

FYI, I talked with Igor Novikov (the original author of this software) this morning about sK1. These are some screenshots of the current program: http://sk1project.net/modules.php?name=Products&product=sk1&op=screenshots#screenshots Version 2.0 of sK1 is at Release Candidate 2 state by the way. This is a link to their Facebook page to keep up to date on progress: https://www.facebook.com/pages/sK1-Project/308311182521658 They have now built in some SVG file format capability and are looking to add WMF file format capability too.

Anyhow, the exciting news to me is that there are plans to incorporate the code from another of his projects called LinCutter into sK1. This is Linux vinyl cutting software. Old legacy code for Lincutter is available at GitHub https://github.com/sk1project/lincutter

Some old screenshots of LinCutter can be viewed at http://libregraphicsworld.org/blog/entry/vinyl-cutting-on-linux-the-real-deal

This is a quote from his email to me:

Quote

Lincutter is a derivative project of sK1 team. Lincutter repo on GitHub is rather a legacy code. We are going to integrate Lincutter functionality inside sK1 2.0 like printing modal window: http://sk1project.net/modules.php?name=Products&product=sk1&op=screenshots#screenshots
It's just because Lincutter is a modified sK1 2.0 app. And such integration will simplify code support and development.

There is no information about when this will occur but seeing how awesome sK1 2.0 has become, I definitely think it will materialize. This looks to be a fantastic all-in-one vector editing and cutting solution for Linux. There is of course Inkcut for Inkscape as most people know about too but this is a whole integrated solution. Having the ability to import Coreldraw CDR files is a definite plus in my opinion.
