  1. Hey did you get this solved? I can make you a tutorial using snapshots with your own image if you'd like. It's an easy fix but it seems as though you want to know HOW to fix it yourself for any future instances that come up, instead of just having it fixed, right? I'll PM you my email address if you want to send the .ai file.

  2. I think what they are trying to say is that you cannot resell the clipart. The wording is a little vauge. You should be fine making and selling decals. If not, i don't see why SW would bundle the clipart with a cutter.

That's exactly what I was thinking as well... buuuuut figured it doesn't hurt to ask about this kind of thing :) thanks lol.

  3. In my quest to always do the right thing, I have a question. First, the situation. I purchased a SignWarehouse branded graphtec (yea yea I understand this isn't their forum, but that's another topic). With my purchase was quite a few clipart CDs for "cutting". Upon further investigation, looking at the CDs some of them have this copyright disclaimer (image attached).

I understand we don't print, but what does this mean? Why provide this disc with vectors to cut from if you can't sell the cut designs? Am I reading this wrong? Can you even legally advertise these designs to cut with a copyright such as this?

    Thanks for any input :)

  4. Appreciate the help all! :)

Primal - might be hitting you up then in the near future, I don't get too many requests for specific fonts but if I start to get more then I definitely will be looking into that subscription and will prob need your help ;) .

  5. I used What the Font, font spring, and font squirrel but I think they're all basically the same website lol. None could find it. Is that program a one-time-fee of $49 or is that a subscription price?

  6. Customer wants to match the font style on his RV, none of my font sites can find it :( .. Don't need exact but if someone can get close that'd be awesome!!

  7. We are pretty laid back around here. Heck, they asked me to help out with the mod and I'm a gun toting hick from Idaho. You gotta know I personally have no issues with hunting. My wife won't let me kill the pet rabbit we have out back and make jerky out of him. One of the older kids got him for Christmas from her then boyfriend and he has lived here ever since even though said daughter is off at college. I even offered to send her a piece of the meat! How did I get on this tangent.....

Haha that's awesome, love it. Well I'm a gun toting hick-chick amateur bowhunter from WA so we'd get along just fine :)

Anyway it's better to ask forgiveness than permission.. so when your daughter is munching on the amazing homemade beef jerky and asks where it came from, well... lol.

It is hard to get to know people via a forum, but my take is there aren't many queasy, PC, or sensitive types around.  I bet some hunt vegans and put them on the BBQ.

Here I tried some various things to give you some food for thought.  It's kinda large, so a link to the picture instead of inline.

Yea that's for sure! Definitely didn't want to start off on the wrong foot. I've been reading as much topics as I can since I joined but ya never know.

Oh man that little summary is awesome! Thank you so much for taking the time to show what you did for the different effects.

  8. It should show up in Illustrator.  If not try saving from Inkscape as EPS, then pull the eps into Illustrator.

I figured out the user error lol, didn't realize there was multiple .SVG formats and just saved it as the first one (inkscape SVG).

  9.    OMG....My first look at this photo makes me LMAO......  Do you really want to make a decal of a horn in such a position  between the guys legs?  LOL...

That's super funny! and yep I want to make a decal of the photo he requested, just might be adjusting a lil something something now.

  10. I downloaded inkscape to play with, man the auto trace is pretty dang nice! I'm liking that so far.. but how do I save an editable image? I saved the .svg and wanted to open it up in illustrator (since I'm more familiar with node editing in that) but it doesn't show up.

  11. Yea I just haven't been around long enough to know if hunting photos upset people here or not (mod can please delete if so). That's all I meant, but here's the current picture I was given. It's cut off on the bottom that kind of makes it look funny on a decal but it's a pretty clear photo aside from the face

  12. Can you post a few samples of what you are trying to trace?

See my previous post - if it's okay to post that type of image I'll post the one I'm working on today :) let me know! Like I said, not trying to cause issues with anyone haha.

  13. I generally hand trace. You can edit the pic in PS or Gimp into black and white and then get a decent auto trace sometimes.

Ah yea I do that when I can! :) .. but a lot don't play well haha. I do a lot of hunting related decals, a fun one is making a literal decal of someone's trophy bull or buck with details of antlers, stuff like that (sorry to any vegans etc, I haven't gauged the demographic of the members yet).

I just can't figure out a quick efficient way to do this, so I have to charge a design fee based on how many hours I think for the photo they provide. I'm new to the charging aspect of this all and don't know if it's standard to do that or not but if I'm spending the time I'm not gonna do it for free is my thought... but it would be nice to cut that time lol.

  14. I was searching to see if there's maybe a how-to guide or tips/tricks on quickly getting a vector design out of a photograph? I like making custom decals using a picture of something, or maybe someone's pet, but I feel I must have the slowest method ever. I didn't know if there was a faster way (auto tracing never works) instead of hand tracing an image so just figured I'd ask you fine professionals  :D

I use adobe illustrator and LXi master plus (sign warehouse's branded version of FLEXI ).

    Thanks :)

  15. Say he forgets the diamond plate altogether, does anyone have a standard they'd be willing to share how they price large uncomplicated graphics? Text only, not installing it, 4x12 feet.

I know the RTA vinyl formula (L+W)/2 would be $96 and that seems awfully low. I'm new to pricing (not to graphics/decals) , and I know there's been posts asked before but it was vague what I found.

  16. So for a situation like this is it standard to just have them get it printed on car wrap vinyl?

I know I can cut the decal the size he wants but the diamond plate background is what's throwing me off. I don't have experience doing them that large.. and he doesn't want the letters cut from the diamond plate, just wants a large wrap on the side of his tank with it. Then the cut blue vinyl applied to it.

  17. Have someone print/laminate it for you. Peel, and stick. Oh yeah, septic tank trucks STINK, and they need 'A LOT' of cleaning. And, most don't want to clean em', want you to clean it. I just told my buddy to shove his, a couple weeks ago.

I wouldn't even know where to get that done, and if that were the case wouldn't he just purchase it from that person/company instead?

Yea I'm definitely not installing it haha already told him that, I'd screw it up most likely anyway.

  18. Unsure how to even word this.. but I need help if anyone has any insight.

I have someone who is wanting large graphic for the side of his septic tank truck. What he said he wants is basically a vehicle wrap in diamond plate vinyl covering a 4x12ft space to go on first as a background. Then he has a large logo and writing he wants to go on top of that.

    1) Is there any diamond plate vinyl rolls that are wider than 24"? I can't find any.. I would think if it weren't a solid sheet then you would see the separation of sheets. I know nothing on vehicle wraps, is there a better alternative for this part of it?

    2) I was wondering if someone cold assist in how they price large cut vinyl. I do small-ish car decals usually, the largest I've made is 12x24". He wants text to fill the 4x12ft space, it's 3 lines of text information. Almost all one color (there was a couple small shapes that were a second color). I have no idea on how to price that.

I told him he'd most likely get the diamond plate vinyl and put that on himself or professionally since I'm not cutting it I don't think it even need it to go to me.. so I'd work on the lettering separately.

  19. Hey all..

So kind of lost on where the line is drawn... with all the posts to the free clipart sites and free vector sites in the Graphics Help side, are these all open source for anyone to use for decals (for example)? How do you find out this information and where do you draw the line on tracing back images to find out the copyrights on them. I'm in a rabbit hole and I want out.

If a customer sends in an image they want you to vectorize and cut, do you all search for the source of literally every image....? I'm not talking about obvious logos/company trademarks. If I get sent a generic silhouette of a bike, how much time do I spend searching where it came from?

I read a lot about copyright issues on this site so I'm definitely not trying to fall into that category. I do custom design as many custom ones as possible, but I like the free clipart as well.
