We have talked about doing vinyl but black paint would be so much easier.

use white translucent vinyl instead of paint - paint pigment isn't made to pass light thru it is more to block lightThat's what we want no light shining thru.

I'm redoing and existing outdoor lighted 2 sided acrylic church sign. I have the vinyl complete but we are having a problem with the white paint looking brown when the lights are on. It's a rectangle with an oval logo so the four edges have to be painted so you don't see the lighting inside the sign. I have painted the inside of the panels twice and both times it looks brown when light shine thru. Our next step is to paint the panels black in those areas so no light will shine thru. Any suggestions?

Tiling is what it is know by. Cutting software often have tiling options. But going by what VinylMaster said and you don't have the pro version, you can do what slice&dice said, make two cut files. In my design software there is a convenient knife tool and can cut something down the middle, splitting it in two. The knife tools can also not split completely in two but cut with an overlap. Sometimes it is easier to align two haves with an overlap when you go to assemble or transfer to the substrate.
You could just also draw a rectangle, center the edge of the rectangle on the oval and do a intersect or trim or ever how the shape/pathfinder/boolean operation is defined in the software you use. Once you have one side, duplicate it and flip it left to right, (mirror horizontally.)
Knife on the right, rectangle/oval trim to the left.
Thank You. One day I'll be an expert at this stuff. LOL

We are using the VinylMaster Cut v4.0 with SC-34in Cutter. I have an oval that needs to be cut out knowing it is wider then the vinyl. How do I tell the cutter to cut it in half so I can have a seam down the middle. I will try to send a pic.

Even doing that pretty sure the light is not going to shine through. As a test though, take a piece of vinyl and put a flashlight behind it. If you can see the light great, go ahead and use that vinyl but don't think you're going to see the light like you want.Ok I'll look into that thanks for the suggestion.

Yes It's a lighted sign but I don't feel that we need to use Translucent vinyl. We are planning on using 3 mil+ quality vinyl and then when we go and spray the inside of the sign we are going to mask off the vinyl so that the light will come thru nicer.

No not translucent vinyl.

We haven't made that decision yet. Any suggestions?

Gotcha! Makes complete since thank you very much. There sure is a lot to learn.

The face and the outside is the same isn't it? If im looking at the sign the face is the outside the part u can touch?

I have successfully cleaned the paint off of the acrylic sign. But we are thinking of putting the vinyl on the outside verses the inside. Any suggestions?

FYI break fluid works amazingly for dissolving paint of acrylic signs. I have tried to down load some pics but it won't let me.

I'm sure its Acrylic also. The good side is it's my church that we are doing this for so if I can save them some money that would good. What is your thought on wet sanding with 100 grit? Do you have an idea on a good supplier for new panels?

I live just minutes from the track and I haven't been in years. It's just in a tough spot with another set of owners who have never owned a track making some crazy decisions. 5 cars in a class does not classify as a race to me. Sad!

The paint is on an Acrylic/Fiberglass sigh. It was hand painted then a white sprayed background.

The owners know that we have a 50/50 chance of get the old paint off or buy new panels. My concern for using paint thinner is staining. I read that if you allow Break fluid Dot 3 sit for a while it will remove the paint with little work or having a smearing issue.

We have our first exterior lighted sign job and we need some help. What is the best way to remove existing paint so that we can apply vinyl? Thank you.

What type of paint should I use. Water based or Oil based? I need to block the white with White paint.
