  1. Not sure what happened either.  Here are the details in hope that it may solve another customer's problem.

On power on. it appeared to be trying to move carriage but did not move, Carriage moved freely by hand.  No red switched pressed.  It only made a pulsing sound.  Fan either did not run at all or ran very slow pulsing with the sound made by the carriage stepper motor.  No display. When I checked the power supply with normal pwr supply connections, 5V terminal rose to 5v then quickly decayed to zero and continued to do this.  All pwr supply terminals were hot glued, but screws were not tight before gluing and positive supply wire to the fan appeared to be shorting out supply.  Fix was simply removing and carefully reconnecting supply terminals.  Had to restrip and bend fan connection to prevent more shorts.  So far so good, three cuts.

  2. Did that ( created a ticket on Thurs ) and haven't heard anything.  Went to troubleshooting FAQ's and one suggested opening bottom and checking connections.  Did this and all plug connections looked OK.  As long as it was open, put a scope on pwr supply outputs.  5V supply turned on and immediately decayed to zero then continued to cycle on and off.  Disconnected all the connections to pwr supply output and checked supply seemed OK. Reconnected one at a time.  Appears to be working now.  Looks like it was short caused by positive fan supply connection.  All connections to power supply were marginal.  Spade lugs were incorrect size for supply mounting space so one side of each lug was cut off to make them fit.  Supply wires for fan were simply stripped wires stuck under the connection screws.  Fan supply connection appeared to be causing short in supply.
