  1. Okay g/f made a file in illustrator.

She sent it to SignCut and when it appeared in it it had red X's throughout it.

She cut it and the only thing it cut were those red X's which were not part of the program.

Unfort for us we are so newbie at this and the docs are so poor for SignCut we are wasting a ton of vinly.

Why were there red X's in the file ?  and why were they the only thing cut ?

I have attached the file she made and tried to cut.

    Thanks

  2. Brought a image into Illustrator. Traced. Sent to SignCut x2 and while it looks cool its not right in any manner.

So I need some help in understanding the SignCut software.

The vinly is 19" wide Spectra Cut II. The directions say for the Roland GX-24digital cutter to use 60-80 grams of pressure.

Is that the same for the Refine MH-721 ?

When the pic was brought in to SignCut the image box says

    4.797

    4.928

    top circle is dotted.

Measuring frame is greyed out. Top box is dotted.

TIles box is greyed out and top is dotted and bottom checked.

    Cutter box reads

    11.95

    11.95

    and only circle is dotted.

    90 degree

When I cut the pic it came out HUGE and not near the 5"x5: I wanted. So what setting does that.

In the SETTINGS FOR CUTTING there is a

and slow forward feeding with scribed line.  - NO INFO ON THIS. What is this for ??

    Sorting is UNCHECKED

    Step by Step is UNCHECKED

Rest are set at the program defaults.

Also sometimes I get a Big Red X thru the image. What is that ?

    Thanks for the help

  3. Hello

Been reading the help for signcut but still have some questions.

On the main panel under image what does the second radio button actully refer to ? When you click on it the word image

changes to colours. Not qutie sure I understand that.

Also the Sign size box appears and there are two boxes. One says proportional and the other use the sign concept.

I assume if proportional is checked if you change either the widht or the height the other changes automatically.

I couldn't see what the sign concept did. Nothing changed when I  messed around in there.

    Thanks

  4. First time with a cutter so pretty ignorant about it.

Would appreciate some hand holding as I learn if anyone has the time and willingness to help a dummy :-).

    THanks

I am trying to just cut a simple Star with the words Super Star above it.

I got a small piece of FLOCK sample sent from Magictouch. Its not big. 12"x12". So gonna use this since this is all I got.

(What kind of paper stock can I use to use the pen ? constructin paper, regular paper, etc)

Step by Step of what i have done/attempted:

    Start Corel x3.

    New

Use Polygon tool and select the Star.

Put a star into the workspace. Ruler shows it being 4"x4"

Then get the text tool. Put the words SUPER STAR above the star

Then go to the icon that looks like a rocketship (application launcher) and choose send to signcut x2.

SignCut opens up and my graphic is in it. Signcut shows the size being 4.666 x 3.530

In the cutter box it says 24.803 and 984.173  (not sure what this refers to or relates to ) and 90degrees

I go to the cutter (far right) and click cutter It shows

    offset 0.010

    Forward feeding after cutting 3.937

Rewind after forward feed 3.543  (not 100% what these refer to either)

    Hit OK

    go to file.

do a preview and it shows the graphic like it is onthe other signcut screen (when pulled in from corel)

Weeding frame is checked ( I assume this puts a box around the image to help weed) and 0.197 is the data in the box

distance between copies/tiles  first box greyed out an second has 0.197 in it.

stacks is checked  equals is checked.  (not sure what they are for or if should be checked)

    Enable safe longcuts is unchecked

forward feeding for cutting off after cut is greyed out

nr of turns , objects (reflecting vinly) is 1

Use software force and speed parmaters is unchecked

cutting force and cutting speed are greyed out. in the box tho is 60 and 90

Testfeed and testcut are greyed out also.

Now when I click cut out the cutter goes into action. HOWEVR it goes to the middle of the cutter and is nowere near the vinly piece I have loaded (Loaded it to the far right about 3 inches from the end - were the blade were to start cutting if it dropped straight down).

So first question is how to I tell the cutter or/and program that the vinly is located at to start the cut at ?

What parameters need to be changed if any ? How often do you need to change parameters and what reasons would cuz them to be changed ?

This is a start and thanks and maybe some other newbie can get some help from this too.

    THanks

    Mark

  5. probabaly silly but didn't see it in the online or in the paper manual. When loading the vinly do you put it all the way to the right (looking from the front) against the unit ? seems like you lose 3 inches or so of vinly.  or go far left ?

And when using vinly smaller than the plotter were is the best place to load it at ?

same with paper ? and what paper can you use to pen plot on with ?

    Thanks

  6. thanks. tested it and seems to be working somewhat. I only have small samples of cutting material sent to me from magictouch.

the depth you see the blade at in the pic is the fartherest it will go up.  I have some flock to test with so gonna give it a try and see what happens.

Using the signcut softwae that comes with it and were do I find default settings for the MH721 at ? If none.

Offset should be what ? its defaulted at .010 and degree is 90. (changed to inches )

Also picked refine / EH/MH 721 not refine selloptia  or should it be that one or not matter ?

    4800 N 8 1 are the communications settings.

    forward feed after cutting 3.937

    rewind after forward feed 3.543

Since the read cutter is greyed out I assume that the 721 settings can not be read from the cutter automatically ? Or did I mess something up ?

    Thanks for the help

  7. Just got my cutter a Refine 721. Find the manual to be pretty piss poor , especially for a newbie that has never owned a cutter before.  6 pages showing how to install software but not a decent pic of the unit and how to put the blade and holder in. Come on hire some graphic follks to make a decent manual or get some good pics on the site. Pretty lousy. Starting to worry about  this thing. Lousy manual lousy product ??

Now that my b!tch is over.

I think I got the blade in properly. I have the piece that I assume is blade holder (since no pics in manul or on site- attachment 1). Looks like its 2 inches long with a black plastic body and a push down tip. I put the blade into the black bottom and it got magenticed up. Is that right ? If I push down on the top the blade comes out.

The black pieces seems to turn. Should it ?

Now what do I do with this thing. ?

Manual says rotate the shell of the cutter holder (how :D?) and set the outstretching length of the cutter blade  (huh ??)

so that is it not longer than the thickness of the vinly.

I assume it means turn the black plastic piece till the blade is sticking out w/o cutting thru the material. Am I close.

With the black plastic turned snug the blade pertrudes a tiny bit. (maybe 1/2 a mm) is this right ?

So if right so far what do I do with this thing ?. I assume again that this goes into one of the two holes on what I assume is the cutter holder.  Thing on the front of the cutter that appears to slide back and forth ? If so doesn't seem to find to snuggly and how does the cutter get pushed out ;D

I assume that I loosen the brash screw thingy and then slide the plastic piece of the blade holder into it.

If so how far do I slide it down ?  To the first notch in the black plastic ? or to the were the ledge that goes around the black plastic piece ? (just below the were you turn to bring the blade in or out - i assume) ?

    (attachment 2).

    Thanks
