    Corel x3 to laserpoint cutter

I've tried but haven't figured out how to get it to work. The problem is the LP is a serial printer but it reads data in a modified hpgl language subset. but the FIDI driver supplied simply sends data directly to the printer with no interpretation ( It only does a simple serial to usb conversion) so the upshot is the software has to "know" the LP's language lexicon (the 'dictionary' used to run it). since Corel depends on the printer driver to do the conversion the Lp hangs after the first instruction set transfered. I've tried using HPGL drivers from drivers.com but I haven't found one that correctly sends the start/Stop codes so the printer hangs! No fun days yet. I used to be able to do this stuff, but it's been 10 years since I looked a a C' program and I never had to build a driver from scratch so even if I had the lp's instruction set and the HPGL lexicon, I'm don't think I could build a new driver.

Thanks for the info I bought some paint mask from signwarehouse ( sorry us cutter , but I owed them I bought my cutter from you). I'll let you know my results as soon as I do something.
  5. Anyone who knows me knows I live for irony, I could use a good laugh right now. What's the connection?? Irony: Bush's invasion of Iraq when Osama Binladin said Saddam is an infidel and he would welcome Bush's invasion! - LOL good one. Bush's "Mission accomplished" Photo op - LOL enough said WDM - WOAH! That's a good one. Economic bailout out! LOL SO, who sunk the ship? The "Viva Viagra" commercials during the Bush presidency - LOL has anyone caught that one yet???

    How does paint mask work?
  7. Sorry, that's over my head don't really understand the connection??
  8. You can't trademark or copyright an Idea, so as long as you don't call it a 1/4 ponder or a wopper then sell all the burgers you want. But when dealling with art if it "looks" very much like the original work then it may infringe. If you traced the work then yes it can be held as a breach of copyright. But if you created an original work and it happens to look very much like an original then no, but you have the burdon of proof that you didn't copy the work such as previous versions or sketches. Remember the original artist holds the copyright at creation but to exercise his/her full rights he/she has to register the work and most large corps require that the artist release the copyright to them. There is one shaky loophole: if a person especially such as an employee asks you to create the copyrighted work and that person acts as an agent for the company then you working in good faith have not infringed copyright afterall how can a company ever reproduce that work if it never releases copyright?? It's a real bear for a company to defend copyright under those circumstances that's why it's rarely prosecuted.
  9. I create all my forms on MS word. I create a header graphics with my company logo & address and paste that to the header field. I use a text box to precisely set position. I then create a table field with shirt sizes from 1x to 6x and a column for style & color. In the middle I place a shirt graphic you can use a square with Length & Width and either drop in your graphic or pencil it in. It works well for me, most customers care about the quality of my work not what I use to order it.
  10. I'm not a lawyer, but my business law 101 class says that dosen't get you off the hook, all it does is reduce the stated compensation to zero, but the company can still state you harmed them by misrepresenting the art. The question for the judge is what do you pay for simply giving away the work?

    Embroidery set-up

Hi troy, I started as a home based business and quickly grew to a full scale business, here I am 10 years later and still going. There are many good software packages I used TGML from pulse micro systems you can start out with a basic lettering package and grow in steps to full digitizing. It has the benefit of outputting to any format you like and the software is vector based so going from iilly to pulse is very easy. You can also get away with getting a free viewer like Ambassador (from pulse) http://www.pulsemicro.com, True sizer (wilcom) and many others. Nearly all Production machines come with the nessasary cotroller software , so as long as you have a DST (Tajima formated stitch file) from a good digitizer then you should be good to go. There are many good machines such as AMAYA, Brother, Tajima, Happy/Texmac and Barudan, but the top three are Tajima, Texmac and Barudan. Try used equipment suppliers such as http://www.equip-used.com/equipment/equipmentlist.aspx?id=1 I just saw a nice 1 head/15 needle happy for under 8K. Good luck, but stay away from the single needle sewmachine/embroidery (like babylock) unless your strickly doing small stuff and low production. I have a friend that ran 76 pieces (God bless her) on a 1 head Renessance it took her 3 days! If anyone saw the movie Cannon Ball Run, she looked like the motor cycle rider afer the race! A Good Luck wish: Keep your needles sharp, your hoops tight and your thread dry!

Let me know when you get an answer. I just bought Armour glass etching. Unfortunately the contours around the glass left creases in the vynil so even after I flattened it as much as I could some etching fluid seeped under the vynil and I ended up with mouse ears in one of the letters!
  14. I'm stricly an electronics/programmer, no grease under my fingernails. Check out my website http://www.caribemb.com/Directions.html, your welcome to come by.
  15. Hey Shiester, Since your in Orlando check out Skycraft it's just on the Fairbanks exit on I4 , you can't miss it it has a spaceship on the roof. They have lots of electronics and maybe a cheap inverter or at least one at a reasonable price. I lost 9 trees 2 hit the house one in the pool three took out most of my fencing the rest fell towards the sidewalks or the street. Lots of wood for the BBQ,but no cold beer.
  16. In electrical terms wattage is the same where you use 12v*3.4a or 120v*.34a. Just to confuse you some more My laptop PS is rated at 120v @1.5a and it's output to the PC is 19v @3.5A (the rated amperage of the PC ) so a 180watt supply is providing just 66watts to the source. The point is that track runner is just cruising at half it's rated speed, good times.
  17. Followup: the VA for most practical applications IS the wattage. By definition W=V*A. the power factor was added by electrical engineers because it was very complicated figuring out how to pull the maximum efficiency out of a circuit. Before PF was used ET's had to figure out the RMS voltage and the duty cycle of each device. a PF simply says this device under normal conditions, will use a certain percent of the maximum rated wattage (VA).But for most of us just using the VA directly makes more sense. SO given the above scenario 1.5a laptop uses a va of 180 plus 100 va from the plotter gives you 280 va. so yes you can just run the setup with a 300 watt inverter, but it's like a track runner running all out all the time there is very little room to rest. On a hot day the heat can cause your system a lot of stress and it will cause the inverter to drop below it's rated wattage.
  18. I'm not sure where you are with this project, but from reading the posts, if you still want to use deep cycle batteries then you need a charge controller or a 'battery conditioner' it will help repair the low voltage charge when you're on the road. run it every night after using the inverter- it will help keep your batteries in top shape. Like chuck said you need at least 400watts I suggested 500watts because you want some cushion a low voltage condition will slowly kill your equipment and cause all kinds of erratic behavior. There is a expression that goes "Sometimes the cheapest option is to most expensive." be careful.
  19. It depends on the UPS- if it provides "Conditioned" power then yes it'll clean up the sine wave. I have a little problem with the USB not working off of inverter power. the laptops' Power transformer should have cleaned up the power before getting to the laptop. So what it sounds like the 400watts may be just a little underpowered to run both, maybe try a 500-600 watt unit or/and run the laptop directly off the 12V from the car (Use a manufacturers 12v adapter). Also check your settings when connected using inverter power maybe they change for some known reason when on inverter power. If is was truly a USB/PS problem you would get erratic results from the plotter ie moving, stalling, stopping etc. Finally it could be a grounding issue between the USB and Power - If it is BE CAREFULL check with tech support before you connect a ground between the laptop & plotter, you could have a BBQ featuring fryed PC-laptop and PCB-board ala LP24. In most cases the groung should run from Plotter TO INVERTER and Laptop TO INVERTER (NOT laptop directly to plotter) in any case trust what tech support says I don't have access to the LP's internal wiring.

    Thinking about closing down

Follow-up Post:"The Printwear show", Tampa, fL Sept 25-26 Tampa Convention Center see https://register03.exgenex.com/GcmRegister/Index.Aspx?C=117&M=50000486
  21. They sell a really nice Booster/inverter at Sears the 60/WA rating should keep you running about an hour to 1 1/2 hr not including the laptop. Most parts stores will sell a 2500W/A inverter but then you need a battery(2) two batteries in parallel would last about 4-6 hours/charge.

    Thinking about closing down

There are many, many trade shows like "The surf show", "The Big Show", "The ISS show" They offer a world of opportunities including seminars and training do a google search for any of the above mentioned shows in your area. They are the number one resource for anyone who wants to do this professionally.

    Aligning tshirt vinyl properly

I usually eyeball it. I pick either the center line on the shirt or align it evenly left & right I find the center of my design & mark it with a sharpie. When I place the design down I sometimes use the patten as my straight edge & I pick any straight line (like bottom of text) and eyeball the patten to that line. for me it's the fastest most accurate way I know.

    Help with SBE

sounds like either your image is too small or possibly the color is same as background??. Look at the left panel and see if your vector's color is selected.
