    how to decide on vinyl

If this has been posted some where I apologize I have read through a lot of post and didn't really get a clear answer. I am new....(ha like you couldn't tell). We purchased a Gerber P2C w/ Omega Software/ adobe illustrator. The person I bought from had some FDC 2500 series and 4200 series and then also some avery vinyl. I am ready to start ordering some but from reading the post on here it is very hard to determine which vinyl manufacture I want to use. For example I am gathering Greenstar is bad juju so I started reading on some Orcal..now I see some people calling this a very inexpensive but not a great product. I am not sure how to really determine what is going to be the best. I did our work van in the FDC 4200 due to it was ours and I really just wanted to play around with doing it. From what I have read the Intermediate is the used for decals, vehicles etc but not for back lighted signs. Is there a good place that would explain the difference in the types of vinyl and which application is best for different situations. I know that everyone has their own favorite brand and just because one person doesn't like another person's choice doesn't necessarily mean it's bad vinyl. I just could use some good in put. Thanks!

this is our very 1st attempt at doing vinyl. I know there are some things we will be redoing but for someone who had never done anything anywhere close to this...not a bad first time I think. (btw this is our security van.)
  8. Just wanted to introduce my husband and I to you guys. I am Terri and my husband is Jeff it's kinda of a crazy reason why we got in to the vinyl business. We are in the process of moving to a small town in Missouri from the outskirts of Memphis. We own a security/alarm business and could not find anyone in town to do our shop windows and the new van we aquired...found a plotter & software on craigslist bought it. Thru reading stuff on here and youtube I was able to figure out how to decal the van and the window. Looks pretty decent for a first timer. See things I need to improve upon but at least folks are saying I did pretty good. lol Anyhow since I know folks will start seeing me around with questions so I wanted you guys to know who we were! Thanks for the post that have helped me out so far and I hope I don't ware you guys out with some crazy questions. Since no one else does it and I have the equipment I am going to give it a good ole country try. Jeff and Terri

Thanks Dan, funny I was just reading some stuff you had posted on another topic. Plus I am so glad to hear that this is a good system. Some other people I have talked to said it was a piece of junk. LOL! folks always say things like that if they think you might take even $1 away from them.

Hi Jeremy, We have a Gerber P2C and the Omega software along with Adobe Illustrator. I don't think this turned out to be a very poplar type cutter but it is doing the job right now. I have find some different things I want to learn how to do and other equipment type needs, but I am starting small and working my way up. LOL!
