Cool. One comment though, I would have either weeded the center or the P and Rs or not weeded the centers of the B.

I saw that when I was weeding it out, almost decided to cut the P & R's free- hand, also could left the B unweeded.

And thanks for your help as well darcshadow

  2. Look whose back in business,  sliceand dice , haumana & MZ SKEETR,  thanks for your help.  I could tell your patience was running low. The key was the send now. I went back to the 1st pic where I showed a shot where you could see the drop box, it showed " send now" but every one after that said hold.  I've used a bootleg copy of flexi 7.5 since 2007, and when that was no longer available,  I got this flexi starter 8.6 maybe around 2013.

I have never noticed that send now drop window,  seems like a stupid thing to have, especially when I hit send, I'm gonna want it sent now.

I'm not a very computer savy person  but I learned a little from the 3 of you. Also I think some of the pictures were maybe misinterpreted from time to time, like one yesterday,  I was trying to show that I only had com 2&3 in production manager setup.  When I took that pic  one of the USB were highlighted because it's the 1st one in the list.

  3. Sorry to report,  null modem cable didn't work either.  Still production manager just goes to holding.

D.M is set on com 2

    P.M. setup is com2

In D.M. when I go advance settings to change com port 1,2&4 are open sez 3 is in use. When I go to P.M. to make a setup,  it only gives me a com choice of 2 or 3, there is no longer a com 1 or 4.

I suspect I got some kind of computer problem.  It's been doing the blue screen recovery stuff a couple time today alone.

Thanks for all the help but I'm giving up on the com connection 20240213_195941.thumb.jpg.5ea93d3a58166a1559e56b49b04f7242.jpg

  4. Ok thanks null modem cable will be here tomorrow evening.

Some one had asked what changes had happened prior to my computer not talking to the vinyl cutter.

Here's what it did...did it again last night,  and again today.  Flexi comes up, but all internet browsing kinda slow

  5. Ok MZ SKEETR,  your saying I should keep the Tripplite Keyspan  cable, and buy a null modem cable, that plugs into the male end of the Tripplite,  but then it will be OK to use a male to male null modem adapter  because cutter is female also?

    Thanks for your patience.

  6.

Show the cable connection to your vinyl cutter.

You  showed your first picture as being installed  in device manager to Keyspan Adapter COM 4, So why isn't it on com 4 in your set up on Flexi?  They must match. No reason it should be on com 2.  You HAVE to use a null modem cable with a Tripplite Keyspan adapter.

    com 4.jpg

On my 1st attempt to cut with this cable,  the com port was set on com4 and I had com4 was the only set up in production manager.  Is this not a null modem serial cable?  I used the link from this thread to purchase it. Here's my cable going into the vinyl cutter. The pic showing the production manager is a screen shot from the earlier video.

  7.

You are not showing pictures of what the Flexi Production manager looks like. Show pictures of how you added your cutter to the set up in Flexi production manager,  Show those photos. Show photos, not videos.  Correct above about you must be using a null modem serial cable. Are you sure it is?

1st couple pics are outta sequence but you probably can figure it out

Here you go, I'll try to get photos in right sequence

Is the serial cable you're using a 'null modem'?  Did your keyspan come with direction for a driver for the adapter?

If you think Flexi is wanting to use COM3, then you can try and go into your Device Manager and reassign the Keyspan to be designated at COM3.

I was kinda thinking that. Yesterday when I was trying the other non null modem serial cable, it was saying come 3 was available.  When I try to change the port to 3 I get this

  9. Thank you MZ SKEETR, you have helped me several times in the past,  thanks for your help and the link. I'm back to trying the USB to USB connection that has worked for several years. Here's a pic of my device manager.  I noticed this in device Manger. When I opened the USB controller,  it just list them but they're not numbered like the com ports. Also when I plugged in the USB cable to computer, in the 1st pic it had that small notification system,  when I brought up the details it said correct driver wasn't installed for this device.  I moved the USB over on USB port on computer and the notification went away. Also seeing where the us cutter is in the stack of USB in device Manger,  would that be USB6?

What has changed in your environment? Did you move the cutter or. your computer? Did you unplug/replug your USB cable? How long is the cable from the cutter to your computer? Have you tried changing the cable, because they do sometimes go bad.

If you're still wanting to try to connect via USB, then try to keep the COMPort to 1 thru 4.  You can see what COMPort Windows has assigned to the device in the Device Manager, and you should be able to reassign the Port number.

LOL, I wish you guys were right beside me. OK, when I go to production manager to make a cut , in status it sez "holding", pic might be in the top of this thread. I have a 9pin serial to use com port, however it is not a NULL MODEM cable,( ordered it it before I saw sliceanddice reply about null modem I still installed the cable drivers, this is what it shows in device manager.

I have ordered a null modem serial cable from amazon, be here tomorrow.

fixing to reboot and give it another try

  11. Ill give it another look.

My problem began after my computer,  which I've never seen do this,...it had been on several days,  screen was blank, then an option appeared that said something to the effect that computer needed to shutdown.  Might have been due to a power failure.

  12. well it worked for a second , It ran a little test after going into the device manger ,( had to watch a video on how to get in there, ) i saw where it said USB clicked on all of them, but I didnt know what I was doing. it said the current drivers were all up to date, so as of now it still goes to holding  when I tell it to cut

I tried the serial cable with no luck but I think I wil try it again. I dont know if its a "nullmodem" can these be purchased on amazon

    thanks again

  13. Hi, I've been using flexi 8.5 starter for years, and it seems like a couple times a year, I have problems in the production manager when it's time to cut. At the present it's giving me the holding message that you see on the right. I'm currently lying using mh871 3@USB_printer0. In the past it would seem like if I changed the port to one of the others shown in the pic, it would start working,  but no luck this time.  I attaching a picmy connection cable. I have also order a 9 pine serial cable from Amazon to try that but haven't recieved it yet.

My question is, do you think this serial cable will solve my problems?  or maybe it's time to move on from flexi starter?

What are some easy to use inexpensive programs to use to cut vinyl?

    Thanks in advance
