    Aachen 8000 vinyl

I just ordered a bunch of the stuff, so I'll let you know after next Wednesday. I'll also post the Oracal color equivalent once I get them.

I'm interested in buying a number of rolls, but I'd like to know what colors I'm getting. I have an Oracal color chart, if there's a way to compare the colors offered here in the 8.5" width. thanks, Frank

Ok, thanks. I will check that out when I get the chance. Thanks for the help. Frank

    everything cut twice?

Thank you! That works great. So was it that I need to fill my shapes to make this not cut twice? I also noticed there's a sort-of path on the cut screen. Was that something you defined? I'm sorry for all the questions, I'm fairly new to this and couldn't figure out the double cutting thing to save my life. I really appreciate the help. Frank

    everything cut twice?

Sure, if someone would be willing to take a look, that would be great. The attached ZIP file has the original .AI file, an exported version in ai8 (which is what SB requires for import), and the signblazer version of the file. I thought maybe it was a double-stacked image too, but I took it apart the best I could, and didn't see anything like that. thanks, Frank http://flambore.com/frank/hobbies/cubes/custom/axiscube.zip

    everything cut twice?

I have a number of images I created in Illustrator. I exported as a v8 (and also tried v3) illustrator file. I imported it into signblazer, and everything looks fine. I even zoom in, and it's just a single even line. When I go to cut, I zoom in and again, it looks fine. Then I click Cut, and proceed to cut the image. When it cuts the vinyl, every line is cut twice. When it's done, I see a black line along with a red and a blue line. They are overlapping, and not always even. Please see the attached images. I have sent this illustrator file to a friend who has a different cutter and software, and he has no problems. Any suggestions or ideas would be appreciated. thanks, Frank

Maybe it's thicker than what you were using before. Try adjusting the force.

yes. Even for a sample, the $10 shipping charge applies. It's not worth it. For that much, I may as well just buy a roll.

He replied to my email. I'm just going to have to take my chances. thanks

Thanks for the reply. I appreciate your description. I got an email from Karl Bowman about samples. He said I can get a sample for $3.99 a yard. Is the $10 shipping charge tacked on top of that for a sample? thanks, Frank
  11. Hi, I have a number of files that were exported from apps like autocad, etc. They cut ok from my cutter, but not as nice as I would like. For instance, to make a rectangle with rounded corners, it should be able to just cut that in one pass. Instead, it skips all over the sheet, cutting a line here, a line there, then come back and round off this corner, then do something else, then do another corner, etc. The problem is, the stickers don't weed properly. The corners sometimes catch. It's not a knife depth thing so much as all the skipping around. Is there a way in illustrator to merge all the lines into a single object (does that make sense what I'm asking?) any advice would be appreciated. thanks, Frank
  12. I posted this in the Refine support thread, but I have since then found that the problem is specific to the SignCut-X2 software. I have windows XP, and I just took my new MH365 out of the box. I have the SignCut X2 software installed, and I have tried the Serial cable on Com1, which is my preference, and I have tried USB, which becomes Com4. Depending on the plotter driver I select in the setup (365, or roland 1000, or graphtec), and what connection I choose, one of two things will happen: 1) the paper will just spit out, and the cutter will continue to feed until I turn it off. or 2) I will hear a short click as if the motor was to be engaged, and then nothing. I have verified that the communication settings are 9600 on the plotter and the software. I am using the pen attachment, and simply trying to "cut" the word "Test" on the paper. Any advice would be appreciated. The test button on the plotter works fine, it draws a diamond in a square. I am able to communicate perfectly with the cutter through the SignBlazer software. I didn't have to do anything special in that software to make it work. I read in another thread here that person had the same problem after she upgraded her software. Is there anywhere I can download an older version of SC-X2 to try that? This is very frustrating. I need to make this software work with my cutter. I am confident that the problem is not related to the cutter, the cables, or anything like that. If there's a driver problem, that may be, but why does signblazer work fine? I opened a support case on SignCut's web site 3 days ago, and have not heard anything back from them. Is this normal for them? It's frustrating when you can't get support. Any advice would be appreciated. thanks, Frank

Has anyone worked with this vinyl? How does it compare to Oracal 651? My use is for custom rubik's cube-type puzzles. They will see a lot of wear and tear, so should be pretty durable. Any unbiased opinions would be appreciated. thanks
  14. The problem is apparently in my PC. I loaded signcut-x2 on my laptop, and it works fine. But it doesn't work at all with signcut-x2 using any of the ports from my desktop PC. That sucks because that's the PC I use to do most of my work.
  15. Ok, I've made some progress. The problem is within the Signcut-X2 software. Well, at least the biggest problem. I switched to my laptop, since I had no drivers installed on it. I installed the included Signblazer Elements software. I tried the parallel port, and that didn't work. I tried the serial port, and that worked. Woohoo! My first actual output from a computer. Then I installed SignCut-X2, and I get the same problem. So, I switched back to my main PC, and same results. Signblaster works, but SignCut-X2 does not. In SignBlazer, I am using the following settings: Refine MH365 Com1: 9600 8 N 1, flow control: hardware In SignCut-X2, I have tried the same settings, except under the flow control settings there are four checkboxes: RTS, CTS, DTR, and DSR. By default, all but the DSR were selected. I have tried a few different combinations of these checkboxes, and I either get nothing, or I get the spit the paper out and continuously feed forever deal. Any idea what these settings need to be, or what may be causing my problem? The fact that it's working fine in Signblazer, and not in SignCut is a good sign. Now I just have to figure this out, because I use Adobe Illustrator, and I need SignCut to take the exported images. Here are screenshots of the configs for SignBlazer and SignCut: Signblazer Elements: SignCut-X2: thanks, Frank
