Okay, so far not impressed

I know buying economy equipment is a pig it a poke, however it should at least work right for a while. I just unpacked a 15X15 economy press (auto open), plugged it in, set the heat to 185C and waited. 30 minutes later, the rubber pad is starting to come off and the temperature is a whopping 125F. Is this typical, or should I just box it up and send it back?
