Worble7 15 Posted September 25, 2025 How to remove parts off of a design for multi color painting for a stencil. TIA Jeff
slice&dice 2,470 Posted September 25, 2025 Jeff, good morning. That's a fair question, but requires a bit more info for a tutorial answer. Software? What is the design appearance? (screenshot posted here) and also, how many colors? (vinyl Layers)

(vinyl Layers) Thanks for the reply, I'm using the software that came with the Graphtec it's pro studio by SAi's Flexi here's one of a few I would like to do. slice&dice 2,470 Posted September 27, 2025 OkeyDokey, My glance at this particular effort would involve Node Editing. By doing Dups of the entire design, then going into the editing mode of nodes and bang away the elements of each layer (on each duplicate) you want to remove. It's tedious, yeah, but you've got clean lines & space separating the elements there.
haumana 1,228 Posted September 29, 2025 ditto to what Slice said, at least for the flag part. it looks like the dog is not touching the rest of the flag, so that should be easy enough.
darcshadow 1,641 Posted September 29, 2025 Once the image is a vector there should be a command like break apart. That will allow you to pull the dog away from the flag easily. I would then draw a box over the star field of the flag and duplicate the flag and box. Move one copy of the flag and box over and then punch to erase the field leaving only the strips. On the second one do an intersection command which would leave only the star field.
darcshadow 1,641 Posted September 29, 2025 And after thinking about it more, if you're just using these as stencils for painting, you only really need to separate the dog. The flag you can just paint blue, using tape/cardboard to cover the area you don't want paint and then repeat for the red. No need to use two stencils and have to fight with getting lining them up. slice&dice 2,470 Posted September 30, 2025 ok thanks everyone I will be learning how to do this next. Jeff Best of luck to you in this new endeavor. We all reach the point of having to deal with Nodes, at some junction in our learning curve. I've even gone into TEXTS and changed them to objects, just so I can go in and change a letter slightly to look better. (A font touch-up, I call it). By the way, those two vertical elements between the dog's ears seem odd, I would just delete them entirely, and leave that area clear.
darcshadow 1,641 Posted September 30, 2025 They are stripes in the flag. Which now that I look at it, the flag is backwards! The star field should be on the left.
