Tango 0 Posted September 19, 2025 I cut vinyl as a hobby, trying to help a friend with stripes on a vehicle. I need to cut stripes 20 feet long but I can’t keep the vinyl running straight in the cutter. My cutter is an inexpensive seiki 870T. Should it be capable of doing this? MZ SKEETER 4,728 Posted September 19, 2025 So which cutting software are you using? I had a Seiki, very likely you can't cut that, But with the correct software, you might. You need a cutting software thart has OPTIMIZE CUTTING ORDER. or similar name. What that finction does is You select a certain amount to be cut at a time of your 20 ft. The cutter will start at the bottom of the stripe and cut say you selected 1 ft. It will cut the stripe the 1 ft on each side of the stripe, then advance another 1 ft, again another 1 ft, until it reaches the end of the stripe. So your vinyl is not going all the way down one side and back. I always measure the distance from the side of the vinyl to the pinch roller on the left and right side. The distance should be the same I use 1.5" distance from the edge of the vinyl to the pinch roller. Make sure overcut is on. Also do not be pulling vinyl from the roll, while cutting. Have enough vinyl pulled and free from the roll hanging behind your cutter. I started my business with a Seiki for 14 months. Then jumped up to a Graphtec, because of the tracking problems. Graphtec don't give you problems with tracking. My Seiki came with Flexistarter 7.6. I still use Flexistarter with my Graphtec as it is great cutting software. I use Flexistarter 8.6 currently. If posssible, you could probably cut 10 feet and overlap the ends.
haumana 1,228 Posted September 20, 2025 You should be able to segment the stripe into where there would breaks at the doors, etc.
