Laser point connection issue

Recommended Posts

I have a laser point cutter that is about 12 years old. I no longer have a computer with a serial connection. Is their a certain type/brand USB adapter that will work or is there some other fix for this? I also don’t have the cutting software any more. Is there a place to download it? I had the flexisign software originally.

the original laserpoint had a usb port - the lp1 was made by creation but if you want a solid serial to usb unit use a tripp lite keyspan device along with the original null modem serial cable that came with the plotter

Mine only has a serial port.

To connect it to your cutter,  You cannot directly connect the Tripplite to your cutter,  the ends don't match.  and the null modem cable has crossed wires,It is not the same as a serial cable with straight wires. The Tripp-lite will only work with a null modem cable between the cutter and the adapter.

The null modem cable should be what you were using originally. Rather than plugging it into the serial port of your computer you'll be plugging it into the serial port of the adapter.

Just for a heads up, the null modem cable is for the MH series.  A laserpoint uses a straight thru 9 pin male to 9 pin female to connect to serial.

If you have an original LaserPoint, then it should have come with a USB port, because I have an original LaserPoint that's even older than yours, and mine had a USB.

I found this post

well go with what uscutter tech support said - we deal with lots of different plotters on the userforum and 90 percent use the null modem cable but maybe yours is the odd one that uses a regular serial cable - you will know which one when you try to connect.  Then reply back here so the next person knows.   all of us that bought our p-cut and lp1 back 12 years ago had both usb and serial cable and if it says uscutter and laserpoint1 it is something we just haven't seen

sorry......I looked again and found the USB connection.

I also tried the link to download sign blazer and finally got SB elements to download and install. I installed the drivers and then went into cutter setup , but the US Cutter laser point isn't listed.

Well, we're getting somewhere!

On your desktop should be an icon USCUTTER drivers? It may be there, it may not.

Otherwise, just use the CreationPcut as your model, try that.

Try the Creation PCut CT630 for the Cutter in Sign Blazer.

No luck yet. I can see the drivers are installed in device manager but I still can’t see laser point in the cutter setup drop down. Choosing the creation P cut doesn’t give me any result. So far the only thing I can get the cutter to do is power up. If I hit the “ on line” button it says on line but that’s it. I’m done for tonight. Will try again tomorrow.

Have you checked which COM Port was assigned by Windows, then matched it in cutting software? You can have everything right, but if the cutting software isn't sending it to the correct port, nothing is going to happen.

"Drivers in device manager" What does that even mean? I have no clue. Uh, What drivers? What is txturbo really looking at in Device Manager? Once the COM (any port 4 or under) is properly assigned for the USB emulation chipset, that's it. Maybe the USB chipset is not even being recognized automatically? Let's see a screenshot.

"Creation gives me no result" -- what exactly happens? Error box? (no communication) or No response at all? Data flowing but machine not responding even though the SignBlazer cut manager shows progress of the cut? -- need more specifics.

So, now we area off into the realm of dealing with the possibility of choosing a different model than Creation for this legacy LaserPoint machine, hell, it could even be LiYu, which I have found runs several types of Chinese units!

Let's let txturbo get a good night's sleep, and when he returns, there will be a bit more to go forward with.

Well, clearly I missed he part where he said that it was assigned Port 7, because I just did not see it in this thread, in fact I'm still not seeing it.

Not all versions of SBE will drop a USC Cutter Drivers icon on the desktop. I have several versions that do not put an icon on the desktop.

I agree, that not all the information is there, but with the limited information that is provided, I'm just providing some possible options to check where the communication is running amok. So if their cutter is the same cutter that I have, I was merely trying to provide some guidance when connecting my LP to whatever PC that needed to run it, but it didn't always setup right the first time for me too.

haumana, first of all, the post I made needed editing because I was thinking of another thread about ComPorts and how to set them manually. Yeah, we answer a lot of similar questions here, often with limited info, and we have to guess and evaluate while working blindly.  (not having access to their computer)

secondly, I don't know why you would even mention 'ALL VERSIONS' of SignBlazer. The link to the installer of v7.0Hybrid/cracked is what I link to always, as I did in this thread. Have you installed it? That USCUTTER devices listing will appear on the desktop.
(on my computer,  I immediately deleted it as unneeded, because LiyU is sufficient for my SC2).

thirdly, we started troubleshooting here on Serial and tripplite and null modem wiring and now we're onto USB.
smh.  We need to be asking more focused questions, getting better info, and working from that.

Check back tomorrow. Maybe things will sort themselves out at his end.

When I plug the cutter into my laptop windows 10 names it USB-serial in device manager. I open it up and under drivers it lists the drivers I installed that came with the SBE download. Driver FTDI version 2.12.28.0

i won’t have much time to mess with it again until after 4 pm today.

Ok....what windows added was just the usb serial converter, not the actual cutter. So I need to still get windows to find my cutter.
