I have a customer who wants a decal removed of his BRAND NEW Jeep. BRAND NEW...it's got 15 miles on it. I don't want to screw up the paint.

Also I've never removed one before...

I thought I'd used a hair blow dryer and maybe alcohol...maybe even sure green?

Any tips?

Heat - hair dryer or heat gun - Goo Gone - Alcohol will not work.

They make a badge removal tool that is wire between two handles. Pull that through the back side of badge and remove the badge. For the rtv rubber adhesive use heat (around 400 degrees) and roll away the excess adhesive. For the thin adhesive layer clean with alcohol just no ammonia as that can cause paint issues.

You can also invest in plastic razor blades that won't damage paint.

temp controlled heat gun and a pink chissler for vinyl, no hotter than 250 for any ive removed. any hotter can attack the paint and some rapid prep and alcohol to finish it up.

Little plastic razor blades, and holder. A little heat helps too. Decal remover wheel from HF, does good, too.

Im not too sure about goo gone. I dont know if it would attack the paint or not,,,I have never tried it or needed to, I would be cautious on that till i new for sure..but he other items are good.

Goo Gone is safe on cars, aside from it saying so on their web page I've used it to remove sap from my vehicles a couple of times.

How to Remove Stickers - Goo Gone Website

  1. Heat the bumper sticker with a hair dryer until the edges become loose.
  2. Peel the sticker off as best you can. There will be some residue left behind, which is perfectly fine.
  3. Spray Goo Gone Automotive to the area with residue.
  4. Wipe the Goo Gone and tape residue up. Repeat until all sticker residue is removed.
  5. Wash the remaining Goo Gone away with hot, soapy water.

If you don't have Goo Gone, WD40 works.
