Cutting rolls of App tape

Recommended Posts

Hello all,

I recently bought R-tape conform in a 24" roll thinking it would be quicker to apply to the bigger jobs i do that use 24" vinyl. It has only proved harder and I end up wasting more.  Is there any good way to cut the roll in different lengths? I've read a bandsaw can work but I can see that tearing it and ruining a whole role.

Thanks,

Michael

I cut a 48" roll of tape down to 24" once. Used a 10" miter saw with a fine tooth blade. I had to turn the roll to cut all the way through it, so the cut wasn't perfectly straight. It was a little messy, but the tape didn't fuse together and is perfectly usable.

I have a new idea to try now though. My brother-in-law has a vertical band saw. I ordered a razor sharp knife edge band saw blade to fit it. In theory I should be able to slice right through rolls of tape, vinyl, & other rolled media.

The vertical band saw idea didn't work so great. Not enough downward pressure, and you can't really press on them. Next idea, convert a cheap wood lathe into a roll sitter.
