  1. When I first turned on the LP24 the lazer lit up and was there for awhile. After a couple of test cuts the lazer went away and I have not seen it again. I am not currently using the lazer but want to make sure its not broken for future use. Does it only begin to function again when I tell it to. If so how do I tell it to. I have only had the cutter for 4 days, new out of the box.
  2. After spending time on a few threads on blade installation and not finding enough specific info, I wanted to share this with everyone in need. I just got done installing mine on my Laserpoint 24. Take out the blade holder which is a black metal cylinder with one end having a open circle with a small metal bar/pole sticking out. Take one of the provided US cutter blades and insert it in to the opposite side that contains an empty hole and also a turnable metal threaded cap. The blade will magnetically be pulled in and stay in place. Now to the important notes (or atleast the ones I needed to know). When first screwing down/off the cap to shorten the blade to the recommended half credit card size, I noticed how loose the cap was at that low of thread. With the cap fealing loose I inserted the blade/holder in the the available slot on the cutter. Taking out the screw to losten the hole and then securing the screw back in place once the blade unit was in. I created a text image and used this as a way to sample cut. The first cut only half the text was peirced and the rest was not cut (although the LP was functioning perfect). This was due to a couple of things. First the loose cap (blade holder cap) was as expected turning while cutting causing the blade to lessen or increase. To fix this first problem I used thread tape (plumbers tape) to increase the thread size. After 3 wrap around the threads with the plumbers tape the cap was steady and only moved w/ small force instead of freely. This fixed the main problem.... The second problem, although a user error, was the pressure setting. I am cutting high quality cast vinyl and I had to set the pressure at 110. I previously had it set at 70 due to others uses. I hope this helps and if not post a comment on your problem with it and I might be able to help. Thanks. Man I am loving the LP!
  3. Oh sweet. Few! I was wondering how the heck that would work as I let the cutter pretend cut (no blade) and it seemed to move all over the place.
  4. First question is what way is the blade suppose to face? Im guessing the sharp angle towards the back where the vinyl enters.... But I have no idea. Example: _____________ | | ___________ | |_____________ |____________ | ^ ^ ^ Vinyl Enter Cutter Finished Vinyl Should the blade be like this? | | Sharp Point-----> | so the vinyl entering the machine hits the sharp point or does the machine cut from a different way? Also I have yet to change my blade pressue but as of right now I put the blade holder(with blade) in to the holding slot and when the blade goes down it only goes down not even half of what it did out of the box. It just goes down to sit on the plastic strip under the blade. Ill check pressure but while asking the first question I wanted to know if that plastic strip is suppose to be their or if it should be removed? If you read this please respond right away with opinion or with facts. Thank you.
  5. Thanks a lot! What I needed to know and trust me, I am definately taking my time. Its been two hours now and I have only accomplished hooking up the comp, hooking the cutter up to the comp by serial, now am in the middle of installing SBE. Haha. Just back to check what the Cutters Baud Rate is for setup.
  6. I just recieved all the necessary items to hook my LP up to my new desktop. I dont have the ability to hook it up in its main location right now so I wanted to just hook it up in house then reassemble later. If I load sign blazer up and have the LP connected and then disconnect it... Will the computer/sighblazer still recorgnize the LP once disconnected and then reconnected? Ill be using the serial port for the cutter. Anything I should have a heads up on in initial set up and downloading other than the manual the LP came with. Thanks!
  7. Just recieved my Laserpoint 24". Very happy with the shipping time on the product. Purchased from ebay and came in no time. Was a little disturbed when I got home to find the box unsealed. The flaps just folded right open as the staples holding the flaps down were sort of riped through. I dont believe anyone went inside it from the looks though. Inside it was packaged very well and I verified all the contents which were in order and looked great! I have a new desktop coming in thursday for the machine and cant wait to hook it up! I got one with the DVI hook up with a compatible 22" montior . That way I can use the serial port for the Laserpoint Cutter and increase screen graphics. This is going to be fun!!!
  8. I know the ability to cut different materials is an option but are there blades that should be used for specific items. I will be cutting cast vinyl, should I use a specific blade? Also whats the average life of a blade?
  9. Max image size I would need to scan would be 18 inches. Does the HP have the ability to scan this size?
  10. So I will be free hand tracing objects for my business and I have a few questions. First does this sound like a realistic concept when using SignBlazer and the 24" USCutter Laserpoint. I will need to scan these sketched items in to the computer. Does Signblazer allow you to upload a scanned object from a file in to its program for cutting and quality checks. When I do the freehand trace im wondering if the signblazer once a image is uploaded will allow me to correct the straightness or curves of my trace. Last question is refering to Scanners Does anyone know of a specific brand of scanners that are particularly good. I only need the scan function and nothing more but I want a scanner that gives a great scanned image. Ive shoped around a little but I dont see much feedback on scanners so has anyone had personal experience? Thanks for any help!
  11. Both answers sumed it all up for me. I will be purchasing this machine next week! Thanks for the quick help its apreciated. Ill be back to tackle some of the set up if I cant find a problem on here. Looks like it being my first time I will most likely run in to something.
  12. Wow exactly what I was looking for . Thanks a lot (really) for your expert advice. I still need advice though as I am dealing with an investment and I must feal savy to proceed. So of my understanding of the above statement is that a image must be created first, then given a contoured feature which is marked. That mark it is given is what the laser reads and cuts by? Well if I where the make a odd shaped object would I be able to put a regular square/rectangle around the object for the laser to read? I would like a perfectly square product to sell with the actual vinyl application to be within that square/rectangle. I watched the video where it contours the image and then cuts it and I also noticed people refering to the blade depth only deep enough to cut the vinyl. So if this where the case would I just cut the squares myself embetween the specific shaped vinyl? I need to get this clear though. So I make a image for the cutter to recognize as the shape I need. You say I need to first print the shape and then it will contour cut. Does that mean the machine will read the one contoured image I give it and then understand it, insert the vinyl to be cut, and it will cut that contoured image as much as needed? Sorry if this is a little rough for reading.
  13. I am trying to fully grasp the potential and understanding of this machine but many questions keep arrising as I read further in to these forums. Im going to narrow my questions with the specific tasks I need this machine for but also to understand its function. Ill number the questions to easily be asnwered in number format and im real sorry if the list is long. These questions might sound really stupid to some but I am completely new to this. 1.) Does the 24" LaserPoint Cutting and Plotter Machine have the ability to print while cutting or is it even able to print colored images? (I will use Laser for the rest of questions for quicker questions) 2.) I read the specs on the 24" cutter and it has the actual demensions of 23" and ... and I will be purchasing 24" cast vinyl for my cutting. Will the machine fit a 24" section of vinyl? 3.) I will definately use the countor cutting for basically everything I make. Im going to be making exact odd shaped items for this countor cutting but I will need multiple peices. My idea is to put in a 24" roll on the machine to cut the same peices probably 2 per foot so like 1x1 foot peice right beside another 1x1 foot peice and let the cutter countinously cut for lets say.. 10 feet (with the roll being on wheels to allow the machine to pull more and more in). So 20 pieces would come out of the 10 foot roll. Is this possible? Here is a simple small diagram to explain if I was cutting a long roll of vinyl of stars each being 1x1 foot ( | indicating the end side of the 24" vinyl ) | * * | | * * | | * * | and so on... 4.) With SignBlazer will I be able to import a scanned image and use signblazer to make that scanned imagae a exact size? Also if the scanned imaged lines are not straight is there a tool that will straighten a line that is imported in to signblazer? 5.) I am going to be purchasing a new computer for just this purpose. Is there a recommendation on a computer? Computer not being expensive just compatable... Sorry for the lengthy questions but its imperitive to my operation.
  14. I think I have seen a sample version you could get to actually test for a day or two how signblazer actually works. I tried to search for it in the forums but kept getting the Trial (actual version). Can anyone send me a link if they have one available?
