    Jagged edges

Hello, That was pretty wobbly. When first looking at the pictures i would think it was the teflon-strip that was weary. A typical sign of that is that the cutting gets better when it moves further along the width-axis. But i've not seen such wobblyness (is that a word?) when it's the teflon-strip. But do please check the teflon-strip, otherwise i would guess it has to do with the carriage being somewhat off the metal-bar that holds it. Sorry for bad english here. Anyway, check the teflon-strip first. Since you have checked the carrier-wheels then it's probably not that. Does it sound different when cutting at that side where the wobblyness occurs?

    Dragging blade after cut

Hi, this seams to be a handshaking problem. What kind of communication do you use? Do you have a USB to serial adapter. Please open your SignCut-X2 account (Cusomer login) http://www.sc-x2.com Describe the communication and which plotter you have and we will give some hints how to solve the problem.

odd shaped letters, eratic spacing, overlapping letters

Hi, However, a change in behaviour like that described does not just show up from nowhere! Something must have been changed, such as a damage of the cable, an extension of the cable has been added or like that. It could also be that you have loaded your computer with some extra equipment that affected the signal amplitude for that serial communication. Try do find out which condition that may have been changed? SignCut-X2 is not the cause. Software never change behaviour, it just does if settings are changed. The only kind of setting that possibly could cause effects like those; it is values of the communication parameters. They may have been changed to less good matching values? The symptoms described could be caused of a handshaking problem. If so, some plot-information is dropped somewhere. What strengthens that theory is that the result was affected as you switched SignCut-X2 sub-revision. As you did some hand-shaking parameters may have been changed. Anyhow, we added a few communication parameters that were not available for change in previous SignCut-X2 versions. By changing those parameters you should be able to find a behaviour that is similar for the new and old version, but changing those parameters will rarely become the complete solution? As this case is the only we have had of this kind recently, it is more likely that the problem is to find in the equipment of yours. - Control the cables, reduce the length to as short as you can, to see if that helps. Do not extend the original cable! - Also try the newest sub-revision of SignCut-X2. I can assure you that the software is not the problem, but faulty communication settings could eventually be the cause. First of all, make sure that the serial communication parameters are the same in the plotter and the SignCut-X2 cutter dialog! - If you use a USB to serial adapter, then make sure that you have the latest driver installed for that adapter! - It could be the plotter that fails; it may not track correctly when the load becomes heavy. To control if that is the cause, put a pen in and just low pressure and slow speed. If the problem does not occur then your plotter needs a service? It was a long row of hints. Unfortunately when rare cases show up it is a bit difficult to give straight explanation. However, in this case a communication problem is the most likely cause and the plotter hardware cause is the second most likely explanation.

    Frustrated with Signcut

Hi, your subscription is now extended with 3 years. If you still have that problem you should make sure tht you use the license you provided by a personal message to us! To switch license you have to re-install SignCut-X2 and that is what we recommend anyway because the sub-revision you seam to have is a bit old now. To get the latest sub-revision (2.17), open your web-account (customer login) and you will find that download. If those advises does not cure the problem, there is a problem with a Internet connection. Please make sure that the computer is properly connected to the Internet. Else, describe the problem, how it occurs in details and we will deliver some more hints about how to gt rid of the problems.

    Frustrated with Signcut

Hello, Sorry to hear about your problems. I've answered all your emails, few minutes after receiving them, but with no reply and then you sent new mails. I suspect there is a email-problem somewhere on the way. Could you either give Ken your license or PM me your coupon-license, and i will sort it out immediatly.

    bad cutting

Hello, it doesn't seem to be anything wrong with the image. But the antennas lines are really tight. I've cut it out on one of our machines without any problems but i had to make the size larger in order to weed it out correctly. Have you tried any other files for cutting?

Error with SCx2 and Refine 721

Hello, Probably there was a communication-error, and in order to prevent from system-crash the program changed to "Write to file" as device. To solve this, click on Cutter in the top-panel to open the cutter-dialogue and then change "Device" to the communication-port you used earlier. If you download the latest version of SignCut-X2, this shouldn't happen anymore as we have changed that behaviour.

    CORELDRAW 9 EXPORT SIGNCUT X2

Hello, Does the circles look like potatoes in SignCut-X2, or is it when cutting it out? If it's when cutting it out, maybe you need to calibrate the cutter?, click on the Cutter-button in the top-panel to open the Cutter-setup dialogue, then click on Calibrate Cutter. Then follow the instructions in that dialogue. Once setup there, you need to make a new cut of your image to see if it helped.

I cannot get files to open

Sorry to intrude. But that is really not a bitmap. It is an Adobe Illustrator file embedded into a PDF-layer, so to read it you must encode the datastream to extract it to an AI-file. (which can be pretty complex) Or in simpler words, open it in a AI-compatible software and resave it as AI, and uncheck the Compression-option.

    signe cut prob

Hello, Have you tried to setup your machine according to this? http://www.sc-x2.com/component/option,com_kb/Itemid,26/t,1/page,articles/articleid,5/ Please test and see if that helps. Also if possible, try another communication-method and see if there is any difference.
  11. Hello, Please setup SignCut-X2 to use rotation of 90-degrees in the Cutter-dialogue. Then when importing image, click the Tab-key on the keyboard to quickly rotate your artwork to save vinyl. You can also click Shift+Tab to always rotate the selected colour(s) or image to minimize vinyl usage. Please see our online manual for more help: http://www.sc-x2.com/online_manual.html Also click on the "Cut by colour" under the tutorials to read more about the rotation. Here are some useful shortcuts: [tt]These shortcuts are very handy, especially the rotation and mirroring which is easy to remember. Main-tools toolbar (Left toolbar): q,w,e,r,t,y,u Sub-tools toolbar (Lower toolbar): z,x,c,v,b,n,m,,,.,- Rotate 90 degrees: Tab Rotate for minimal vinyl usage: Shift+Tab Mirror image: Ctrl+Tab Open new image: Ctrl+O Import latest image under the import-folder: 1 Choose specific file under the import-folder: Shift+1 Read vinyl-size (for supported plotters): 2 Calculate automatic tiles + automatic weedlines 3 Cut out (opens the cut out dialogue): 4 Preview 1 copy: Shift+4 Open the image-dialogue: 7 Open the measuring frame dialogue: 8> Open the tiles-dialogue: 9 Open the cutter-dialogue: 0 Open the Settings-dialogue: F11 Delete all weedinglines: F6 Delete all registrationmarks: F7 Toggle whole / adapted area: F8 Toggle wireframe / fill viewmode: F9 Toggle tiles, registrationmarks & weeding tools:Space Toggle measuring, rotation & object tools: Shift+Space Toggle between the available colours: Ctrl+Space The most commonly used shortcuts is the Tab-key in various use with Shift and Ctrl in order to rotate or mirror the active image/colour layer. Also the 1,2,3,4 buttons are popular for simple signs, like when cutting a simple text or one-colour signs. As easy as 1-2-3-4 [/tt]

Where to plug my Keyspan Adapter

Hello, What kind of adapter did you purchase? This one is the most commonly purchased one, and one we have personal experience with: http://www.keyspan.com/products/usb/usa19hs/homepage.spml Normally you should plug the USB-part into the computer, and then put the serial 9-pin part to your plotter/cutter cable. Never mount the adapter directly to the port of the cutter/plotter, as it might break both the machine and the adapter. Oh, and by the way, once you have installed it, and installed the driver for it successfully, you should find a device in your cutting-software named "/dev/cu." and then a serial name.

Crazy Diaganol Cut Lines from SignCut X2

Yes, static electricity could be a cause. When air is dry and the stand is on a carpet the risk for static electricity is high. When cut outs is long and it feeds a lot forth and back, static electricity is built up. If the plotter is grounded the risk is reduced. But even though that likely is the cause for the case described here it is important to follow the manufactures recommendation to use 4800 Baud when the USB to serial converter outlet is used. Else the cause could be a kind of handshaking problem. There has been an arguing if this is a fault or not. But as the vendor recommends 4800 Baud it is not, it is just a limitation as that outlet is used. The fenomena occurs when a buffer memory becomes empty. We tested many softwares to see if others had found a limitation pass by. But we did not find any, all of them behaved in the same way. So to be sure to not vaste vinyl the manufacture recommendation of 4800 Baud setting should be followed.

    Can't cut since update?

So you have 2.17 now? A new ability in 2.17 is the extra parameters for serial communication. We added those as we expereinced that for instance various USB to serial converters takes various settings for RTS, CTS, DTR and DSR. Before those parameters were set by default for various plotters in the SignCut-drivers. So if you still can't cut, I suggest that you try different settings for those. There are 16 combinations possible. We should appreciate if you try that and let us know the outcome! / Kjell

    How to do layers

Hi, in SignCut-X2 colors has the meaning of layers. It is more intuitve in that way. Each color will be represented of a color separation button. Those are situated in the color bar at right side of the working area. As you click such a button only that color weill be seen. If you press the Shift key and another button, that will bee seen as well. What you see is what will be cut. If you implement registration marks when all colors are shown, those reg.marks becomes active in all color layers. The adapted area feature will adapt the cut out area to the shown colors and all active reg.marks will be included in that area as well. If you do not need all the registration marks in each color layer you may be able to reduce the cut out area by deactivating some of them in that particular layer. Then just point the mouse cursor to the border of the reg.mark and click the right mouse button. The reg.mark becomes dashed and may dissappear from the screen as the cut out area automatically adapts to the remaining active objects and reg.marks. Let's say that the image on a single color layer is so large that it doesn't fit on the vinyl. Then you have to tile that layer. Thereafter, when you apply the snapping reg.marks to the tile-borders those will just become active in that particular layer because then is not all color layers active. To learn more about it, read th online manual. It is quick an simple, just practice a little! http://www.sc-x2.com/online_manual.html
