  1. VinylMill  how did you upload the firmware?   I downloaded the zip file from Graphtec but was not able to upload through the updater.

There's suppose to be a way to do it from a mac but I couldn't figure it out.

I just borrowed a PC laptop from work and followed the instructions.

    http://www.graphtecamerica.com/graphtec-america-support-downloads-cutting-plotters-ce6000-series

my cutter has growled since 2008...just sitting there. come and go..... never had a problem with it..  Growls a little louder, longer when running sloooow...  on speed 2.

Does your cutter make that noise when it's sitting still like mine does in the videos? Or just when it's moving?

  2. Wanted to give an update on this...

Graphtec has had other people mention my issue, however they said they hadn't heard any as pronounced as mine. The consensus was that I should update the firmware since it was a known issue that had to do with the Gain settings for the Y motor... whatever that means!

The firmware did not help, here is a video taken after the firmware update.

I sent them that video and didn't hear back from them for a week so I made another video found here of the same thing.

Still didn't hear back from them for another week so I sent another email asking what was going on. The responses seemed shorter and they didn't seem to care as much anymore. They told me the sound is normal. However if it's normal then why did I go a year without it ever coming up? And why does it not always come up?

They really only seemed concerned with cut quality... and I haven't noticed anything out of the ordinary with cutting. I'm just worried this thing is going to turn into a paper weight right in the middle of a big job because the motor goes out or something.

The only other thing I was told is that I can send it in to an authorized service center that's 175 miles away and they can take a look at it.

  3. I got one of the first machines that came off the line. It's been running strong every night that I've used it for over a year. This has just developed over the past year and a half (almost).

I know what you mean about the noise level, especially when running slow... but this is a new development that just started about two weeks ago. At first it was kind of random when it would happen, now it happens all the time.

  4. My second problem, and this could just be a Cutting Master problem but I don't think it is. There is a small chance that I changed some setting the other day but I really don't remember doing anything.

Everytime I cut something, the plotter does not come all the way back to the starting position. It's like it starts a new starting position about a half inch to the left. It creates a stair stepping effect if you will.

Take a look at the pictures and let me know if you have any ideas. Thanks!

    Here's the starting position

And here is the position after it is done with the first cut. Might be hard to tell. Take notice of the blue strip.

  5. I've got a couple of issues going on with my CE6000... the main one is this awful noise coming from the carriage.

I took a video of it as it's the only real way to describe what's going on. It's like the motor is still moving just a little bit. It doesn't do it until after you select the kind of material, and you can't hear it until the fan goes off.

    Does anyone have any ideas?

  6. Yea it seems to be a little slower and a few less features than flexi. I miss the poll size from flexi and the show size feature. It might even be in there and I haven't had a chance to find it. I do really like not opening up an entire other program and might actually cut down on my time in the long run.

I'm just very frustrated that flexi is so far behind and doesn't seem to care about mac users anymore. I mean... I was actually told that "flexi 8.5v2 is officially compatible with 10.4 thru 10.6". If that's the case then why is USCutter and other sites still selling it?

  7. Talked with Flexi Support tonight. If you have a working version of Flexi do not upgrade to OSX 10.9.

So with all of this going on tonight I just happened to open up cutting master and it worked just fine (since I design in Illustrator). Why have I not been doing this all along? Is there something better about Flexi's cutting that cutting master 3 cannot do? I'm just need to know if it's even worth downgrading this mac back to 10.8 when I have a cutting plugin right there.

  8. My parents paint is a very porous matte finish with very little texture. They claim it's eggshell but it's almost too rough for that. My decals do the exact same thing to certain parts of their wall. Some stuff sticks great, other things just fall right off after a day. That paint is probably the reason it's not sticking but I haven't had one like this happen yet.

Do you know how long ago it was painted?

I too am curious about that weird halo effect they have going around the decal.

  9. I can't imagine it not being easier and far more convenient to order one of these things. Taking cost out of it... I can't imagine how much time would go in to making something like this and getting it to look this nice. This is honestly one of the best purchases I've made in a while.

    Metalcraft "Orca" Rack 2

    Metalcraft "Orca" Rack 1

  10. Final update...

I can now confirm that the Orca rack from signwarehouse.com is made by Metalcraft and is extremely high quality.

I bought it, paid about $215 and some change, shipped to OKC.

I love it... just need to figure out where to put it now.
