Need vectored flag like clawed image

Yahooman2, I got the same feeling when I read your first post as most of the guys that responded. If you did indeed want help with creating such a flag in Photoshop I and many other members would have chimed in on how to do it. It seemed as though you were just looking for a free copy of a copyrighted image though. If you just wanted something similar to those substituting a few words in your post would have made all the difference. There may even be members that have created such an graphic or have one that the author licensed for anyone to use. That being said, you can catch more flies with honey than you can with vinegar.

    I give up

Your situation is what got me very frustrated in the beginning. Learning my limitations took a while and I felt very constrained in what I could do. Don't worry though, with the changes you mentioned I think this project is possible and will look great. I hate wasting vinyl but you have to look at it as a learning process. The vinyl is actually pretty cheap and once you work out these kinks things will flow more naturally.

    My introduction

Welcome to the forum. There is a ton of information here to help you get the cutter figured out. I would like to see your pictures, I like pictures. http://www.picresize.com/ is a site I have used before to reduce the file size of a photo.

    I give up

First step: Read your signature. I like the idea a lot. I think part of the problem like others have sad is the size and style of fonts. They would give you trouble even with your machine perfectly dialed in. I would switch the fonts around so that the more complex fonts are the larger words and the smaller size is the simpler fonts. Maybe even drop a whole line off so you can make the rest of the words larger.

    When to refuse a job?

I have had US rentals take 4 days to come and pick up a lift. Just depends on how busy they are and if they need the equipment for another customer.

    When to refuse a job?

Have you priced how much it is to replace the substrate? After paying to transport and remove the vinyl from it you might be around the cost of replacing it. Have the supplier deliver to the job site and install your vinyl on location.

Input for a few different business names

Good choice, I wouldn't use any name that is already in use or that would blend in with others.

I liked "here's your sign" but figured it was copyrighted or trademarked. How about "World"s best sign shop" OOH or "Killer Signs"

    When to refuse a job?

YOU CAN DO IT! lol just kidding, you should really have insurance before taking on a job using ladders and commercial property. I get a little overwhelmed when people call me about things I have not done yet. An easy way is when you have to go and look at the job. Do some research first to find what factors need to be considered. Take pictures, measurements, and walk yourself through the process of doing the job so that you don't miss any aspects. Leave and do all the math, then double check your research to see if you missed anything. Ask questions on this forum! The subcontractor idea will definitely work but I hate to give money away. How high up is the sign? Your insurance might not be very much money and be worth going for.

If you want to fix up the XP box it should be pretty easy or even try to restore it. I have heard bad things about Windows 8 especially regarding cutting. I run windows 7 without any issues but like everyone has said, we have seen or experienced incompatibilities with Windows 8 and cutters or the software related to them. Two programs I have on all of my computers are Malware Bytes and CC Cleaner. They are both free and are powerful tools. Doing hard drive maintenance will also make a big difference in performance like defragmention and scanning for errors. Uninstall applications you will not be using and clean out the dust.

Input for a few different business names

I just mentioned in another post that I wish I had chosen a name that included what it do. If I did it over again my name would be Clovis Signs. (Clovis is the city I live in) nothing like bringing it home and keeping really simple.

    Small signs, big bucks

Thought about changing my name a few times. I picked it a long time ago but figured I would be better off keeping it the same when I took my vinyl business full time. A sign business and probably most other types should say what they do in the name. Ted's Signs, signs unlimited, or whatever works. The trouble I was having is that I didn't want to be called Ted's signs and then sell wall art and other items that customers won't associate it with. I'll let you guys in on a little secret, my name is a reference to a movie I like. Jay, I do like the idea and will do some thinking on it. Since I am moving and will need new business cards and what not, it would be a great time to change the name. I ported my work phone number to Google Voice and will continue to get calls from it so hopefully I can sell items to old clients by mail.

    Business goodwill, what's it worth?

It could greatly vary depending on the situation. You could be onsite for a period of time then be available by phone to answer questions for a month. Maybe just have you work in the shop a couple days a week and go over how to do the jobs they have. Or they could hang around in the shop and learn for a few weeks while you are still running things.

Nice work on the sign, adding the green and blue fills / graphics make this a great looking sign instead of just another coro.

    Business goodwill, what's it worth?

I'll fall in line with the other guys here. I have heard a fare price would be 3 to 5 years of recorded annual revenue (on the books and accounted for, not someone's word!). Of course this would be an average of the annual revenue for the life of the business or at least the last few. The new owner would be silly to think that there wouldn't be a change in business with the transfer of ownership but that is part of their situation, not yours. The other way to determine a price is for equipment and supplies. This is good for a business that is not turning a profit or at least an appealing one. Fair market value for all equipment, supplies, furniture and so on. If the building is owned then that would also be included. The last factor is training if it would be included. Some sales include the seller training the buyer on how to use the equipment.

I recommend Dakotagrafx for print work. Quality work. Fair prices and good turn around time.

Anything is possible but I doubt it is moisture. These machines like any other kind are affected by dust, moisture, age, wear and tear. I see you have inspected the machine for noticeable issues but I would start by looking at it again. Use a small mirror and try to look at the parts from ever angel. Feel the rollers and other parts to check for breaks, cracks and warp-age. Is there a pattern or area that the problem is in? One side of the cutter or every few inches? After getting the blade properly set it should not be able to cut more than it is supposed to, what is it doing now? http://www.digi-plott.com.ar/wp-content/uploads/CG-60st-manual.pdf

Yeah it looks like you have a pretty good grasp on the process. The memorial cross has some nice small detail, I am impressed.
