outsourcing banners
GearboxGraphics replied to loren's topic in Business Practices, Sales and Pricing, etc.
I sub out all of my banners now, period. I don't even do the basic vinyl banners anymore really cause everyone wants the full-color when they see them. I design it, get it approved, and have it printed by another company. It works out well and my customers are always happy with the full-color banners. --Cory -
Just an FYI on SISER Easyweed Vinyl
GearboxGraphics replied to Cre8tiveCutter's topic in T-Shirts and/ or Garments
Yep, happens quite often actually. It is not just Siser, but many of the other brands are the same way. I actually went to my local Fellers warehouse and picked up an order one day and asked them about it. The guy there showed me the rolls and they are like really long and they cut them down to the size you need. In order to make it actually work out without wasting an end of the roll, it is actually not cut to 15" exactly. Weird I know..... --Cory -
Custom Heat Transfers?
GearboxGraphics replied to williamssignco's topic in T-Shirts and/ or Garments
I use FM Expressions for all custom transfers. They have an 8-piece minimum. Really good quality stuff and they can do either spot transfers or they also have the "Freedom" full color transfers. Email them for some samples, they do really good work. http://www.transferfreedom.com --Cory -
Longevity of vinyl transfers?!?
GearboxGraphics replied to metatrox's topic in T-Shirts and/ or Garments
That temp. and time both sound low to me. I use Spectra Eco-Film most of the time and I do them at 345 and 25 seconds. I have shirts that were done over a year ago in vinyl and they still look like I did them yesterday. It almost sounds like the temp and time are low and so the vinyl is not getting pressed in well. After a few washes it is peeling off since it was never really set in well to begin with. Maybe try a little more heat and a little more time and see if you get some better results. --Cory -
Excellent logo, really clean and simple. Good job on the install! --Cory

Credit Cards

Exactly. Take CC's, ship packages, and track packages right from my iPhone. --Cory -
What marketing tactics are working for you?
GearboxGraphics replied to GearboxGraphics's topic in Business Practices, Sales and Pricing, etc.
Yeah, I am getting ready to ramp up my eBay sales again. I did it for a while a long time ago and made pretty good money, then quit because it became more trouble than it was worth with all of the other work we had. --Cory -

Just curious to see what others are doing to market their business for very little cost right now in these times. Are there things that are working great and/or things that are not working well at all? I have noticed a drop in business over the last 2-3 weeks and I have to ramp up some marketing efforts, which I have never really had to do in the past. So what is working for your business and what is not working? --Cory -
What should i charge for race car numbers?
GearboxGraphics replied to badbrad2007's topic in Business Practices, Sales and Pricing, etc.
And they are worth every penny. I have spent many pennies on both of those sites. Made the money back pretty quick too. $.02 Jon LHF is by far the greatest font resource to exist! Their fonts are crafted by hand and worth every single penny that you pay for them. --Cory -
A few more....

Finished up a few projects for myself this week finally! Enjoy! The Pinstripe shirts are done with Spectra Ecofilm vinyl. The TSS shirts are JPSS transfers. The splatter shirt is Spectra Ecofilm and the "stars" shirt is JetWear Dark transfers.

What type of vinyl should I get
GearboxGraphics replied to pandc's topic in T-Shirts and/ or Garments
Yep, repressing with teflon will cause the shiny look everytime. --Cory -
how many of you use......
GearboxGraphics replied to Pappy's topic in Business Practices, Sales and Pricing, etc.
Sorry, but I disagree. Twitter takes a little getting used to, but is an extremely good marketing tool if used right. I probably average 15-20 jobs a month just off of Twitter alone. The key to it is to keep your tweets work and business related only and keep it separate from any personal twitter account you may also have. --Cory And how long do you think people are going to keep checking their Twitter account when it becomes nothing but advertisements? Judging by the speed of myspace's spread accelerated exponentially, this should take approximately 6-9 months, in my estimation. If anything, I think you should not separate your business and personal Tweets, just to keep some personality and liveliness to your business, and hopefully keep people from ditching you after your third Tweet "special". Wait, I'm not saying to spam people on Twitter. I just don't see the need to let the clients that follow me know that I just ate a ham sandwich. I can keep that for my personal account where friends and family see that only. I don't spam my followers anyway. I just keep them updated with new services, new website features, etc. I don't make an infomercial out of it. --Cory -

All of the LHF fonts and DNA fonts are paid fonts and I cannot share those. All of the others can be downloaded free at http://www.dafont.com. LHF fonts - http://www.letterheadfonts.com DNA fonts - http://www.signdna.com --Cory -
I doubt it would work as you really need the even, continuous pressure and heat for it to adhere correctly. I don't think you could apply the correct pressure and heat to the graphic all at once unless it is something small enough for the iron to fully cover. May be worth a shot, but will likely not work. --Cory
