    Stahls Shoe Platen

Need the opinion of someone that actually has the Stahls Shoe platen. Is the risk worth the reward? With shoe prices over $100...what happens if you misprint the shoe. Do you buy your customer a new pair of shoes? I've used a Stahls Heat Press since 1997 and I've made mistakes applying #'s, or have had film fail to release from the carrier. Some times it has been my fault, but a lot of times, it has been the quality of the film or #. Correcting the mistake with Methylene Chloride Solvent (sold by Stahls) or a screen printing Goof Gun has work on some small misprints, but also can make more of a mess. Has anyone who owns the Shoe platen experienced misprints on shoes...how have you corrected the problem, and what price are you charging to personalize the shoe?
  2. After 17 years of using transfers and sub-contracting the large print orders, I sold 15 year old equipment from another business and purchased all new screen printing equipment. The manual is a Workhorse 6 color-4 station. In 17 years of selling sportswear, I have never had an order for more than 4 colors. But, it depends on your market and your target customer. The dryer is a Vastex EconoRed 1 54, infrared curing system. I recommend purchasing a belt extension so you don’t have to wait for shirts to go thru the dryer. Everything depends on what you want to spend. The above were the most expensive items. As for ink, I recommend Wilflex Bright Tiger white. It is expensive, but the coverage saves both time and ink. For other colors, we use Union and a local distributors brand without any problems.

    Looking for screen printer outsourcer!!

If you are near Pittsburgh, Pa., and you can pick up your orders, I would recommend X-Deco Wholesale Embroidery and Screen-Printing. They print for the Steelers. I used them prior to purchasing my own equipment. Shipping cost can eat up your profits when you outsource your printing.

    vintage look

Use Stahl's Cad-Cut Super film and start with the directions for the CCH20 process. You can create Original Wash or a Extreme wash look...just like in your design. Instead of 400 degrees, I reduced the temp and increaded the time to prevent the shirt from scorching. You have to do some testing to get the right look. Make sure to purchase the film that is recommended for the CCH2O process. I have had the best luck with black and red.
