P-cut stops mid cut and I miss three inches of finishing the project...

Recommended Posts

Very frustrated here!  Okay...I made it past the initial stage of nothing being displayed on my 24" P-cut other than blocks for the first few months (Why unscrewing the bottom of the cutter would make these go away...I have no idea???)  Now, Signblazer won't allow me to finish a project without the p-cut going into a waiting mode.  Granted I am using a Laptop with XP and USB connection.  So, should I buy new software that is more laptop friendly?  Buy a different plotter?  Or buy a serial connection for the laptop?

Time is money and my investment in this plotter has almost been surpassed by the vinyl that I have wasted in my attempt at completing my first sign...All suggestions would be appreciated...

I know very little, but I know that the red buttons on the sides will kill a cut.  The cutter is cutting the initial outline square of the project and then stopping before it has cut out all of it. I started with a 20" x 20" sign that is now about 14" x 17".  The red buttons are not an issue.

I believe that the problem is more of a software/USB problem.  However, I have already registered the software on my laptop.  What is the process of changing out the cutter from USB to Serial???  Would it eliminate Signblazer from stopping in the middle of a project with letters not highlighted in red?

Thanks again...

Remove the USB cable and plug in the Serial cable. Set the software to communicate through COM1.

No...My baud rate 19200 which is checked by taking the cutter offline and pressing the mode button until it gives you the baud rate.  Mine is 19200.

I went ahead and lowered it as requested and nothing happened on the cutter end.

Here is another example.  I made the sign even smaller due to lack of wasted larger vinyl.  However, Signblazer is still not cutting the enitre sign.  It is not cutting all the way to the side as well as the top.  Also, the arrow is not being cut???

I know that I am asking the same questions that a thousand Newbies before me have already asked.

Thanks for all who are taking the time to re-answer these questions.  :)

Tsar you have to change it on the cutter and the software to match, the cutters just work better set at 9600

Take it offline and to the baud rate setting and use either the + /-  or the up down arrows to change it, I dont remember right off hand which one changes it

Damn directions led me to believe that it was preset at the factory at either 19200 or 9600!  Okay...I have changed the settings and the cutter still isn't finishing the job.  However, if I go into Signblazer and select the cutter button it takes me to a view of my project with a blue box around it.  If I enlarge the blue box to include several inches on both sides of the blue box, I get a resized image that will be completely cut.  So, do I have a software issue or could it still be the USB connection versus a Serial connection.

FWIW...All of you have been great!!!

I am leaning towards the USB.

Try cutting the same file without any of the Weed options checked marked on the rigth side of the screen before you tell it to cut.

Is this a laptop by chance?

Granted I am using a Laptop with XP and USB connection.

Yessir which means its going to be a bit more difficult to switch it over to serial.

Tsar just install the trial mode of signblazer on a different computer it doesn't matter that you already registered.

i am actually having the same problem with my cutter. im using flexi 8, on a laptop with usb also and and my buad is at 9600 but for some reason the cutter just stops half way thru making the sign. this happened to me one other time. i was making a sign that was very detailed as i am now, and when i took some of the cuts out it went through all the way. the problem now is that this sign im making now has alot of details that i need to keep. how do i fix this???

Laptop and USB? Have you disabled any USB power saving features in your BIOS?

go online and by a usb to serial cable this will solve all your problems. we were having all the same problems untill we got the new cable. also change the baud rate. there is a major issue with the usb port on the cutter.

can you cut anything else? like just a few squares/circles. baud - 9600, and flow control- hardware , set on the cutter, the program setup and the com port all have to be the same. Been there done that :D

I just cut 28ft of vinyl for 2 banners, no prob. At one time i had the same problem.
