Signs with vinyl & paint - What paint?

If I airbrush some gradients on a sign along with vinyl letters what paint should I use?  The 651 vinyl is good outdoors for several (up to 6) years so the paint has to also hold up. Is there a satifactory water-based paint?  Do you UV clear coat the whole sign?

This gets tricky.

If you ask your supplier for enamel receptive vinyl, they have it. Other wise you will have to use a vinyl ink and it stinks to high heaven and gets expensive. You can buy a package of enamel one-shot primary colors on Ebay reasonable.

I have never used the water based paints for this.

I paint antique style signs and I use Avery Spray mask for my vinyl and One Shot for my paint, never had a problem!!!
