Tommy D 0 Posted June 9, 2008 I am making decorative painted wood signs. I want to make fairly detailed lettering for quotes or phrases. The boards are 6'' x 24''. I want the lettering to look as if it was painted. Does it matter if i use gloss or matte? Which will look better for this project? Thanks for your help. CyberSultan 6 Posted June 9, 2008 I use only glossy vinyl myself.
Guest fivestar Posted June 9, 2008 Matte gives it a more "painted" look.
Jay2703 704 Posted June 9, 2008 I would go with matte also.

CyberSultan 6 Posted June 9, 2008 Are you painting or staining the wood before laying down the vinyl? If so, depending on the finish or paint you use there, I would match the vinyl to that texture.
Tommy D 0 Posted June 9, 2008 I am painting mdf blanks with an acrylic paint. What is a good matte vinyl to go with?
Tommy D 0 Posted June 9, 2008 is oracal 631 better then FDC 4725 matte Calendered 6 Year Vinyl?
Guest fivestar Posted June 9, 2008 Never used the FDC 4725 matte. But Oracal 631 has alot of colors to choose from. Honestly I'd say any matte finish for what you're wanting to do will work. I'm sure these are going to be indoors and not outdoors. If they are outdoors I would not recommend the 631 as it is more temporary for outdoors, but should last a lifetime indoors.
