Iron on vinyl

Recommended Posts

So I have a uscutter 52" SC2.  Can I cut iron on vinyl on this thing?  I was given a project with little cricut sized squares on iron on vinyl.   I have no idea how to do this?   Is there any tutorials you can recommend for me?

Ahhhhh, What's Up Doc?   (couldn't resist)

What you are seeking is HTV  (heat transfer vinyl).

While it's possible to literally iron that stuff onto fabric, it's a much preferable thing to use a heat press, for consistency and control.

The cuts must be mirrored (reversed) so that the design comes out looking the right way on your fabric. Check out any of the plethora of YouTube videos and you'll see how that works.

My confusion with it is the video I watched was of a cricut...they said to place a mat under the vinyl to cut it.  I have some vinyl that was purchased for the project.  It's a small project.

The mat is only needed if your cutter needs it or if the vinyl being cut is too small. Just load the vinyl in your SC, shinny side down, mirror the cut and you're good to go.

or if you get slippage when the HTV is being cut.

Second plug to remember that you are cutting on the adhesive side so all designs need to be mirrored. (in case you missed or glossed over that). I once forgot to mirror and made around 100 copes of a left chest logo that were all backwards. I now save my files already mirrored so I have to un-mirror them if I am cutting on regular sign vinyl.

Yes it can be done. Mirror the image and cut with the shiny side down. You may have to use a bit higher downforce and slow speed

I have  done HTV with no issues. Have a look at this recent project

While weeding, you need to sit in a well lighted room and use a hook type tool for weeding

Good luck

It has been done with a household iron switched to its maximum heat setting and peeling it  when warm. After the fabric went cold, I pressed it with the iron again twice within next 12 hours with a piece of pure cotton cloth in between the fabriuc/design and iron.

I did another one similar 4 years ago and didn't have any complaints from the client.

Hope you go ahead with the job but be careful not to subject it to a very hot machine wash and not to iron directly on to the decal.

The person was too happy that he got such a detailed design being able to be made as a sticker and not a print
