Problem With A DGI Omega 60 Cutter

Recommended Posts

I am having trouble cutting. It will cut fine the all of a sudden it acts like it changes pressure and rips the material. I had to get a new serial cable, and i got a usb to serial and it is like 10' long. Could that be the problem or is it something with the cutter itself.

Thank you,

Shawn

Have you watched the cutter head, and making sure it is going up and down while cutting?  Make sure the blade depth is set correctly.

To start with, you should set your blade depth correctly, by taking the blade holder out of the machine, and firmly cut across a piece of scrap vinyl, you will be cutting. You should only be cutting the vinyl and barely a mark on wax paper backing, Adjust blade to get there, Then put the blade holder back in machine, and use the force of the machine to get there, same results, only cutting the vinyl and barely a mark in wax paper backing. You should barely see and feel the blade out of the blade holder. Regular sign vinyl is only 2-3 mil thick. You only cut with the very tip of the blade.

+1 on check blade depth. If you're cutting into the backing and ripping it then there is too much blade. No matter the pressure it should not be possible for the blade to cut the backing if the depth is set correctly.
