SC Cutter connection

Recommended Posts

I have a laptop with only one USB  port, so I purchased a hub to connect the vinyl cutter and the mouse transmitter.  It still will not allow me to send to the cutter.  So I have to connect the cutter directly to the laptop.  Not a big problem, but it would be nice not to have to keep unplugging the vinyl cutter and switching to the mouse transmitter. Does anyone have a solution for using both at the same time?

RandyJ, good to see you pop in here, with a really unique question.

Does your older computer have a thing called a PCMCIA slot?

I owned a legacy Dell with a problem on the USB side and inserting a PCMCIA card with connectivity to RS232 serial created a very robust and reliable data route that the cutter loved.

Is your USB hub passive (powered solely by the USB port)  or active (with an external power source)?

If it's passive, I would try an active USB hub and see how that goes. Another possible point of issue is how long the USB cable is, or there is an extension being used.
