Did you try a different cable?   Will it still run a test cut?   You should always unplug your cutter when you know it is going to storm.

 Yes, I would see if it works at all first, with the TEST  feature. If not then maybe storm damaged the connector and board.

I know the local computer shop said the cable is loose, it may be the problem,

the cable is 9 pin to 25 parallel,

What should I do if it is board shark, it is a old machine, not tech support any more.

Not much you can do if bad board.  Will be hard to find.  Maybe check on Ebay etc for cutter cheap.   Part it out, and sell the parts. 

Maybe you can find a good used Graphtec in your area to get going again.
