reignink 0 Posted May 26, 2019 Sorry if this is posted somewhere else, I'm new here. I purchased a 28 vinyl cutter and went to cut and I tried cutting a design around 22 inches wide to test it out. For some reason it works just fine in the first 12 to 13 inches, but after that it doesn't cut as deep. I read somewhere about possibly the cut strip being too far down on one side but I'm not sure. Anybody have any thoughts on what it could be? Thanks for any help you can give me.
MZ SKEETER 4,708 Posted May 26, 2019 How did you set your blade depth?
reignink 0 Posted May 26, 2019 The width of the vinyl and just a little past that.
MZ SKEETER 4,708 Posted May 26, 2019 You have to start by correctly setting the blade depth and the force from the git go. This is how. To start with, you should set your blade depth correctly, by taking the blade holder out of the machine, and firmly cut across a piece of scrap vinyl, you will be cutting. You should only be cutting the vinyl and barely a mark on wax paper backing, Adjust blade to get there, Then put the blade holder back in machine, and use the force of the machine to get there, same results, only cutting the vinyl and barely a mark in wax paper backing. You should just barely see and feel the blade tip out of the blade holder.
reignink 0 Posted May 26, 2019 Thanks I will definitely do that. Also, why would it cut fine the first half of the design but trail off the second half?
MZ SKEETER 4,708 Posted May 26, 2019 I have never even heard of that cutter brand, had to look it up. It compares to a cutter here (MH) that we tell buyers not to buy. You don't state what brand of vinyl you are using. Vinyl can be different thickness. Also make sure the wheels of the carriage head are firmly down in the track. They can come out during shipping. Make sure the blade holder is tight in the carriage head.
reignink 0 Posted May 26, 2019 Vinyl was Oracle 651.
MZ SKEETER 4,708 Posted May 26, 2019 Do test cuts, with the TEST feature of the cutter, and make sure the vinyl is cutting good. If your running fast speed, run the cutter slow.
slice&dice 2,450 Posted May 27, 2019 I would also check to see if the arm that retains the blade holder isn't cracked. Too much pressure on the knurled screw that secures that swing arm can result in breakage of the plastic piece. (Hairline fracture)
