Problem with cutting

Recommended Posts

Hey Everyone,

I have a Roland XR640 print/Cut machine.

It has always cut great until recently it started giving me trouble.

The cuts are not clean and crisp, some lines don't connect all the way and is sloppy looking.

Ive changed the blades, blade holder, cut carriage board, servo board, ribbon cables, cut protection strip.

and is still giving me problems.

Any suggestions or help would be appreciated.

Have you slowed the machine way down and watched it?  Or recorded it?   If your blade was set correctly it would not be cutting thru and lifting the vinyl.  Is something in the carriage head loose?   Are the carriage head wheels firmly down in the rail?   Have you tried a different cutting software?  You never stated which cutting software you are using, on which operating system.

This is how to set your blade depth correctly.

To start with, you should set your blade depth correctly, by taking the blade holder out of the machine, and firmly cut across a piece of scrap vinyl, you will be cutting. You should only be cutting the vinyl and barely a mark on wax paper backing, Adjust blade to get there, Then put the blade holder back in machine, and use the force of the machine to get there, same results, only cutting the vinyl and barely a mark in wax paper backing. You should just barely see and feel the blade tip out of the blade holder.
