LaserPoint2 Waiting to send

Recommended Posts

I will apologize first if I missed a solution for this.  I did check the feed and found a few things but so far nothing on that level has helped.  Support ticket has been placed but of course I need my cutter now.

LaserPoint II purchaed in 2015 - Vinylmaster software -  I have had issues in the past where the laptop and the cutter would not communicate so I would have to change USB PORTS then it would work again.  I successful cut designs about this time last week no issue.  I get ready to cut on Saturday and the same thing as prior times did not recognize the usb port could not detect it, so therefore could not send design to cutter.  We tried reassigning the usb port etc still nothing.  So since my laptop does not have a serial port my husband went and bought me a serial to usb hub.  Now, software detects the usb being there but when you go to send it sticks in the waiting to send mode and never goes any further.  I know it has to be something simple we are missing.  We have checked that parity to what we read suggested on another post it is set just what that one suggested.  We have downloaded the drivers again hoping maybe it needed a refresh, still nothing.  UGH!! I am at wits end - I do not do a lot of cutting anymore, but I make shirts to send with my clients when they are traveling.  I just received my new order of vinyl Friday and now I am flustrated because I can't cut these shirts.

Any suggestions or help would be much apprecited.  Seems to be a lot of knowledge on these forums.

Thanks!

Terri

Unless you purchased a Tripp-lite Keyspan Adapter your still using a flaky  USB chipset.  This USB to serial adapter is the only one guaranteed to work with a vinyl cutter.  Those value cutters have a cheap Chinese USB chip.  The Tripp-lite Keyspan adapter is more like TRUE USB on a higher end cutter.   Best thing is to have a dedicated computer, where the cutter and computer are hooked up at all times.  Best to have the USB cable plugged into USB port  of computer before turning the computer on.

Find the best price.

I know that you're using VM, but  you could also try Sign Blazer Elements. It's free and the only thing it will cost you is time.

Do you always keep your laptop plugged into the cutter? If so, then the laptop and cutting software should be able to hold on to the correct information. If you are intermittently plugging and unplugging the software, then there's a chance that the USB port you're using that the port that VM wants to send it are two different port numbers. Use Device Manager to check what port the cutter has be assigned.

Keyspan is definitely an option, but it is not the end all, be call of communication - neither is Tripp-lite. I initially started with a direct serial to serial, then went to (a cheap keyspan I bought from eBay), and when the serial port finally quit on the cutter, I had to go to USB.

I'm not versed at VM at all, but I would like to think that there is some kind of setting that you can manually designate what Port # to use, so I would do that - "Auto" will not always pickup the right port for the cutter. I would also recommend that once you have it communicating again, to try and not unplug the cutter, and not to relocate it to a different USB port on the laptop. Once it's all good, leave it.

Good luck.

Haumana is right, VM allows you to manually set the port:

In VM >File >Cut/Plot >Vinyl Spooler > pop up window appears.

Right hand side of pop-up has 4 tabs. Click on "Connection."

Under "connection Method" I have "Direct Com Port."  Then for "Settings" you can try "auto select" but it doesn't always find something.  I manually set it to "USB Serial Port (COM5)".  Be sure the baud rate is correct or it may just sit there and do nothing. My LPII is set to 9600.

To find which USB port your computer is using, in that same pop up click "system" and then "device manager" in the top tool bar. In the new pop up scroll down to "Ports" to see what the computer has found.
