Cutting a sharp outline

Recommended Posts

Hello cutters,

I have a logo (a tree) that I'm trying to cut just the outer 1/4" edge or so.

When using the outline tools I loose a lot of  the detail.

Using Vinlymaster Pro V4

Thanks in advance for your much needed help.

Can you post a screenshot or something to give us a better idea of what you are fighting?

Using the default settings it traces it fine. Then outline it 0.25" using this tool (tip change the corner style for variation):

I'm guessing you're wanting more of an inline tool. You want the crisp sharp corners on the outside. I don't know in Vinyl Master, but in Inkscape I'd duplicate the design, add a stroke then convert the stroke to a path then merge the two images keeping only where they overlap.

Sorry for the late response guys, business has been insane and I can't find carer type employees for the life of me.

VM trust me when I say I spent hours researching the tools before coming here. I find this software very instinctive and easy to use. What I'm looking to do can't be done with the module.

Darc you might be on the right path my friend but I think it can be done in vinyl master.

I did it with VM Pro by mistake when I first got the software. What I remember was multiple exact outlines "in blue" but it wasn't called "outline" in the program.

I used the pen and drew it out on paper but I can not find the file.

Is it possible to duplicate the image, resize the duplication and weld them?

Thank you.

Duplicating and resizing can work, but not in most cases. Text and complex shapes simply scaling up the size does not give you the same results as an outline.

This is what I'd like to do but with only 2 lines.

Just take your oroginal vector and add an outline to it

A bit more research into VM, and what I call a stroke in Inkscape, VM calls a pen style. So you should be able to do in VM, what I did in Inkscape.

I'm not a Vinylmaster user but, is there an option on the outline to use inline instead?  That would keep the sharper detail on the outer edge.

I did a quick inline in Flexi on the leaf you posted.
