mh871 doesn't cut past 22" wide and makes a grinding noise

Recommended Posts

my mh 871 mk2 recently stopped cutting past 22" wide.  when it hits the 22" mark it starts making a grinding noise and then tracking it thrown off for the rest of the cut.  there doesn't appear to be anything wrong with the belt.  any suggestions on where to look for the issue and if there's an easy fix?

Check that track that the rollers run in or look for anything else that would be stopping the cut head from moving. The grinding noise is simply the motors and pulleys trying spinning and the belt not moving. Not good, but it sounds a lot worse than it really is.

thanks for replying darcshadow.  i've looked inside the carriage, on visual inspection nothing looks different.  my mechanical abilities don't go much beyond taking a few screws out.  i've noticed anything cut wider than 14" is stretched out, by 18" the corners no longer meet up.  the unit is about 3 years old, very well used too.  so it may be time to upgrade.
