jellybelly 1 Posted April 4, 2017 We have a new Titan (1) cutter, and it drags the knife quite often, scratching the vinyl between cuts. It isn't raising the knife all the way, like the spring is too weak? It often scratches the vinyl even when doing an area test. My husband can lift the knife carrier up... probably 1/4 of an inch, but it's irritating when we're cutting a job. Any known fixes for this issue? We plan to call customer service tomorrow, as the machine is only 2 weeks old... TIA!
Dakotagrafx 7,297 Posted April 4, 2017 how did you set your blade depth? is the carriage wheel on firmly on the track?
jellybelly 1 Posted April 4, 2017 The blade depth is set to barely scratch the backing, no issue with weeding or anything else, just dragging between cuts
Dakotagrafx 7,297 Posted April 4, 2017 ok the other thing they will ask you is to make sure the carriage wheels are all firmly on the track - we have seen many many times where the carriage jars loose of the track during shipping.
MZ SKEETER 4,708 Posted April 4, 2017 Just now, jellybelly said: The blade depth is set to barely scratch the backing, no issue with weeding or anything else, just dragging between cuts This is the correct way to set you blade depth,,You should barely see or feel the blade tip out of the blade holder. It only takes the very tip of the blade to cut the vinyl. Some people are seeing instructions of 1/2 a credit card thickness and that is incorrect. That is way too much blade exposed. To start with, you should set your blade depth correctly, by taking the blade holder out of the machine, and firmly cut across a piece of scrap vinyl, you will be cutting. You should only be cutting the vinyl and barely a mark on wax paper backing, Adjust blade to get there, Then put the blade holder back in machine, and use the force of the machine to get there, same results, only cutting the vinyl and barely a mark in wax paper backing. jellybelly 1 Posted May 16, 2017 It seems there was an issue with the carriage from the time we got the cutter. USCutter replaced the entire thing, and the new one works great, no issues at all! Great customer service!
