What are your favorite brands of vinyl and why?

Recommended Posts

Hey Everyone,

First time posting here. I was very excited to find this place as we are just a few months into our venture and many questions have been coming up. We have used a few different types of vinyl so far but I am curious to know what is your favorite and what is the best use for it. Looking forward to exploring the posts more, and reading your answers.

-Cheers.

Oracal all the way here..Flawless and great product. The Orafil company stand behind their product 100% if there is ever a problem you can contact a Product specialist and they will take care of you , if it turns out to be a material issue, I have used 651,751,631, etc.. I also have used 3m as well. No need to go to anything else for me.. 100% satisfaction from all customers i have sold things to with no issues.

Oracal 751 and 3M Scotchcal 220 - They are more expensive but weed easily.

ShineRite -- Feller's house brand.

I have a Feller's warehouse 20 mins. away and they provide me with 10-yards of vinyl at a moments' notice when I need it.

My favorites are Oracal 751 or 951 and 3M/gerber 225. The 225 is 220 on a clear carrier and is basically same grade as 951 and pretty pricey but locally available if I didn't have time to order in the Oracal.  Gerber 225 is my favorite for super tiny many copies type of decal projects. Easiest weeding I have found to date.

Oracal is what I currently use.  I have yet to try any of the other ones mentioned above.  I did have some greenstar stuff I got with my cutter, and was not a fan of it at all.

AWESOME! thank you everyone for the responses. I also have used oracle, greenstar, siser,  I am exploring other products to get a broader better understanding of the different types.

As far as heatpress vinyl what do you guys use?

We are based near chicago. this is my first print shop using a vinyl cutter and heatpress. I am very happy with the switch from screen printing and the response from my customers has been great.

I use siser easyweed and stretch. Thanks to wildgoose for the information he provided when i first wanted to do heatpress.. Ended up buying a hotronix fusion 16x20 with tons of add ons.. Its amazing stuff by far.   I learned something on it also. I accidentally left a outline of a node line in a middle of a design and the of course the cutter seen it and cut it. so there was this cut plain as day lol.. So i got curious and heatpressed it anyway and the cut line sealed it self and vanished 100% , couldnt even tell where the cut was. it has been washed several times and i still cant find where i messed up...Great stuff..

That cut will eventually show up but may not be a problem. I have used a small piece to create a patch on colors that could hide it a few times with good success too. Some colors show up the double layer but many will not hardly be visible.
