Dawn's Design 403 Posted October 10, 2016 This has nothing to do with vinyl or sign making. But I wanted to show what I do in my spare time. These are a couple pot calls ( turkey calls ) that I poured and turned a while back. I love this type of work almost as much as sign making. Thanks for looking.
Cal 393 Posted October 10, 2016 Very cool. What do you mean by pouring & turning? Cal
Go-C Graphics 856 Posted October 10, 2016 WOW I read the title and saw the pictures. My mind went completely into the gutter and I thought "How the hell do you smoke through that?"

I mix and pour them into a mold.( I use poly resin.) Then I turn them on my lathe to the size I want. I can make just about any color that a person would want. I did a couple the other day for a guy that wanted his school colors.
Dawn's Design 403 Posted October 10, 2016 I do ink pens also. This one I did for my wife. It is a red wood burl with about 8 coats of CA for a finish.

Cal 393 Posted October 11, 2016 That is very cool. My son & I were into turning pens and such several years back. It was fun, but we only needed so many pens! Cal

Dawn's Design 403 Posted October 16, 2016 Poured this one Monday. Turned it Thursday. Pulled the clamps off after the glue dried today. Was trying for camo.. I think this is close as I can get with the colors that I have.
Cal 393 Posted October 16, 2016 That is very cool work, for sure. Could you make a mold with a 3D printer? Is the mold a special type of material, or simply a form that has a release agent applied before pouring in the liquid - like spraying a cake pan with Pam? Dawn's Design 403 Posted October 16, 2016 I use a 4" PVC pipe for a mold. So I could try just about anything with it...
andygeekboy 62 Posted October 16, 2016 I'd love to see a video of this process, if you get bored over the winter you should make one
Dawn's Design 403 Posted December 8, 2016 I think this one is getting closer to camouflage. I still have got to do some polishing on it. When I poured this in the mold it was fun. Five colors in one pour.... Thanks for looking...
Cal 393 Posted December 9, 2016 I still haven't forgotten this project! Is the mold destroyed or reusable? Being camouflage ought to help with repeat business! Cal

Cal The mold is reusable. I made it out of on of the white cutting boards from Sams.
