Primal Decals 621 Posted May 26, 2016 Came across this today on another forum...Kinda cool i guess ,if it works like they say it does.. Anyone ever try it? http://www.stickyyard.com/ http://www.stickyyard.com/eval/eval.php
darcshadow 1,625 Posted May 26, 2016 I like the putting measurements directly on the image, but I wouldn't count on them being very precise, to many places to introduce errors.
Primal Decals 621 Posted May 26, 2016 ya i understand that. i do it the same as you sometimes or i find a spot and measure it and then work in Ai .
Wildgoose 4,200 Posted May 27, 2016 I either have someone hold a tape measure up when I snap the photo or I stand it on the ground and lock it up a few feet tall so it's in the pic and essentially do this same process when building vehicle layout's. The biggest thing is to get a very straight-on pic or you will get some distortion. Works great for cut vinyl graphics. I would imagine wraps need more precision.
Command 97 Posted May 27, 2016 Goose is right. You need to take a picture completely perpendicular for the skewing/scanting not to throw the measurement off. Also lower resolution or further distance increases the margin of error. This kind of measurement is good for rough calculations and cut graphics, but isn't going to hack it if you need high precision. You can do this with anything you know the length of. Convert known length to pixel ratio and then measure point to point on a normal image converting it inversely. I do it with a Dollar sometimes!
Wildgoose 4,200 Posted May 28, 2016 In AI I just make a square that is an actual foot and then start enlarging the pic until it matches a foot on the tape and then I'm designing in real scale. (Actually I usually drag a design in after scaling the pic and then scale it up to fit)

Magnetic rulers come in handy for vehicles(1 horizontal and 1 vertical).
