MH erratic cuts, Laptop VGA out to COM Question

Recommended Posts

Getting the typical erratic cut on any large cuts.

I have a 15 pin VGA out on my laptop, can i get an adapter to plug my 9 pin into the com port on my MH 871-MK2?

Or are the VGA ports on the laptop just for video use?

Any settings to go to COM?

Did a lot of search on this and of course didn't come up with anything.

Just USB to COM.

That  VGA is to go to video,,,  Tv,  monitor, etc. yes....

Been discussed hundreds of times,  get a Triplite Keyspan Adapter   That is the brand name.  Also the MH is very limited on memory.

That is only for Video ok didn't know if there is a way to do it.

I know the Tripp lite is standard just trying to get away from USB if its possible.

Thank You

For $60 you can buy a cutter-dedicated laptop with a serial port.

I have been running like that for years (WInXP).

Slice is correct,  I also stay back on XP as very stable....The USB chip on a MH is a cheap Chinese chip and not true USB.  This is why the Triplite Keyspan Adapter works,,,It is like a TRUE USB connection...much better and with better flow of data.   If you search Triplite Keyspan Adapter on this forum, you will see that it has fixed many problems with the value cutters.  You will also need a null modem cable to connect it to the cutter.

Yes, the supplied cable is null.

For the record, I previously had a laptop without a built-in serial port, and installed a PCMCIA card (cardbus) with a serial connection.

Skeeter,

i got one of those adapters today, been cutting huge stuff with no problem. thank you.

Slice,

now thats what I was looking for, thanks now I know they make them.

I'm want to cut off two cutters at the same time because most I do is two color and would like to do inline outline simultaneously,  you know without having to change media all the tile,, just using two cutters, is that possible? Or do I need to link to PC's with the two cutters? someway, somehow?

In theory, if you have multiple comm ports you can control multiple cutters with one PC. In practice there may be some comm/software issues that prevent you from running two cutters at the exact same time. If that's the case you could still have two cutters setup and loaded with media and then just move the comm cable between the cutters.
