bigmark1972 0 Posted February 23, 2016 I have an issue with the cutter lifting more than I think it needs to. Using AI with Cutting Master 3 . Here is a short video example of what I am talking about (cutting 2 passes here but the excess blade lifting is obvious) https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B72LKAZyPz2hNXp5ZS01Y1dnS0k/view?usp=sharing Here is the same section shown in the video . The extra lifts increase the cutting time and wear on the machine. Cutter is a Graphtec Ce-6000-60 cutting magnetic sheet 2 passes. Thanks for any help. MZ SKEETER 4,708 Posted February 23, 2016 Delete some of those nodes to make a nice cut. Doesn't .ai have something like simplify? My cutter does not chop cut like that...It moves along and cuts. Try different cutting software.
bigmark1972 0 Posted February 23, 2016 I'll search for something similar to simplify. I'm open to suggestions for another software. Segments or not I don't see a good reason for the cutter to lift between them. -Mark
MZ SKEETER 4,708 Posted February 23, 2016 You could try the Signblazer trial, Signcutpro trial, or Vinylmaster demo and see if something changes.
bigmark1972 0 Posted February 23, 2016 OK I will, thank you for the suggestions. -Mark
MZ SKEETER 4,708 Posted February 23, 2016 Your welcome and you will have to change the command on the cutter to HP-GL to use those programs
Go-C Graphics 856 Posted February 23, 2016 also make sure tangential setting is off.
bigmark1972 0 Posted February 23, 2016 Yes, it's off.
darcshadow 1,625 Posted February 23, 2016 Take a close look at the nodes in question where the blade is lifting. I've seen some designs where there are actually two nodes directly on top of each other so it looks like complete path but there is actually a break in the path. MZ SKEETER 4,708 Posted February 23, 2016 If you can, post the file to look at. here...
bigmark1972 0 Posted February 23, 2016 I'm importing it as a dxf into AI https://www.dropbox.com/s/ke3tvf0vg99kazq/zombie2.dxf?dl=0 From there it is sent to cutting master 3 Waiting on Graphtec support to get back with me as well. I've blown it WAY up and had a look not seeing multiple path or breaks.
MZ SKEETER 4,708 Posted February 23, 2016 Go to MORE REPLY OPTIONS next to POST and upload the ai file
bigmark1972 0 Posted February 23, 2016 The AI file is too large to upload here, but here is a link if that helps. https://www.dropbox.com/s/7lrhj903wp0s5c5/zombie2.ai?dl=
KYSIGN 233 Posted February 23, 2016 My guess is the line segments are seen as separate paths. You would need to join them somehow.
MZ SKEETER 4,708 Posted February 23, 2016 my cutter is cutting it, but there are no continuous paths about it, It is only cutting from node to node, It will go to the right and cut a section, node to node, then to the left and cut a section of node to node....Even when you do editing of nodes, it just takes one section of node to node away..They are not connected. That's is your file.. not your cutter. Get away from the dxf files........
bigmark1972 0 Posted February 23, 2016 Thanks for the info, I will look into that. -Mark
signyouup 178 Posted February 23, 2016 I know with Inkscape DXF's always come in as a bunch of separate lines.
bigmark1972 0 Posted February 23, 2016 Yeah I created the dxf with a conversion program that is similar. It's odd I can not seem to join them in Acad nor AI into a single polyline or spline. I'm not super versed in AI but can not seem to get it done. I will continue to study it. -Mark
darcshadow 1,625 Posted February 23, 2016 In Inkscape the only way I know of doing it would be to select two line end points and merge them, which works well if the nodes on top of each other, or join them which can require some tweaking because it joins the two points with a straight line. Wildgoose 4,200 Posted February 23, 2016 I am betting that by saving as a dxf you are actually causing it to break at each line segment. Why use dxf format? There is a plugin for AI that will connect the segments called Concatenate but it will cost you I think I paid $25-$35 but it was a long time back. I have a client who sometimes has me work over his dxf files. There should be some other format that will cut for you.
MZ SKEETER 4,708 Posted February 23, 2016 I don't understand why he is using dxf either....Maybe he will explain.
bigmark1972 0 Posted February 23, 2016 @wildgoose I use DXF because I need it to be the correct size. I'm much better in Autocad than AI perhaps I need to change that so I can leave autocad out of it. These are stencils that must match the size of another object I cut with a laser, those files need to be in .dxf format. -Mark
MZ SKEETER 4,708 Posted February 23, 2016 Hmmm my sizes are always correct....lose the autocad....dxf...you are creating your own problems, my 2c.
bigmark1972 0 Posted February 23, 2016 Will try that route, tnx
Wildgoose 4,200 Posted February 24, 2016 I have never had any issues with size being off either. The only time I did I was trying out saving to SVG and cutting in SCALP (way back when it first came out). AI to SignCut using AI version 8 perfect every time.
