LaserPoint II starts cutting & freezes in the middle of a cut job

Recommended Posts

I've only had my machine a short while, but it's had this problem off and on since the beginning. It starts to cut and either never starts cutting or it starts cutting and stops in the middle and never finishes. Is there a list of troubleshooting problems I can go through to try and figure out what's wrong? I am using it with SCAL4pro and I have a Mac 10.11.1

Also I saw someone mentioned a keyspan adapter in a previous post. Does anyone have a link to an exact one that would work? I bought one but it won't plug into the machine, so I'm not sure what I'm actually supposed to get.

Thanks for any insight.

This is a Tripplite Keyspan adapter below..    You plug the USB end into your computer,, Then you attach a null modem cable to the connector part of the Keyspan Adapter, then end of null modem cable to your vinyl cutter.  The Keyspan Adapter does not plug directly to your vinyl cutter.

Also make sure your machine is grounded, this time of year static is your worst enemy.

If it is sitting on carpet put a piece of cardboard under it. And I 2nd everything the other 2 said. I got a keyspan and grounded it good and my cutter hasn't stopped since.

Thank you. I have a keyspan adapter I guess. It looks just like that, I just don't have the other part.

How do I know if it's grounded or not and how do I fix that? Mine is on a stand on hardwood flooring. It's not on carpet.

My tabletop MH didn't come with a ground and it was doing the same things you described. I have a 5 ft piece of bell wire ( you can use speaker wire ) I removed about one inch of casing from both ends. On one end I attached a metal washer this will lay on the floor. I loosened a screw on the bottom of the machine wrapped the wire around it and retighten the screw.  problem went away.

If you have a stand you can simply make a jumper wire from the machine to the stand using the same method except you will screw the wire to both pieces.

Thank you so much for your help.

I have a jumper wire that has small clips at the end, will this do the same thing without having to screw the wire anywhere? or do I still loosen screws on the bottom of the machine and stick it up in there?

I figured out how to ground it and I believe I got the correct cables to connect it all. Now my software SCUT4 Pro won't recognize the machine. It's like it's not connected. Any ideas what to do now?
