They should just make sure its a RGB black and not CMYK.

 

Why would that make a difference?

Prints darker than cmyk black from most programs. I can immediately tell the difference if I use the wrong black on transparencies.

Yup RGB black is a lot darker than the CMYK black. If you start with a CMYK color palette you can always go under the color char and click RGB and you will see that its more of a grey than a crisp black.

You would think that Black is Black, especially in a color printer that prints CMYK, you would think that CMYK Black would be a better Black...

A similar thing happens with CMYK white vs RGB white. If I use CMYK white the printer uses ink and prints a very light grey. If I use RGB white the printer doesn't waste ink and the extra white paper I use actually shows thru.

50,50,50,100 is similar to RGB black. It's often called Rich Black in CMYK.
