What do you get for $30 -- VinylMaster Basic 'upgrade' for US CUTTER users

Recommended Posts

OK, sports fans, here's a thread that covers what USCUTTER is featuring prominently on their main website (and in advertisements here on the Forums) ---

Vinyl Master Basic, the $29.95 "upgrade" to whatever you're currently using to cut with.

While waiting for my order to be processed (am I going to get an actual physical disk, or just a serial number and a downloadable installer?) I wanted to cover a few of the reasons I decided to pay for this program.

1. Clipart included.

As I looked at the screenshots, it became readily apparent that there were many items in the clipart library which caught my interest --  outstanding among them is the Grateful Dead logo.

2. Fonts.

I'm hoping there's a good way to keep them catalogued, especially with thousands of styles.

3. Vectorize engine.

'Nuff said.

4. User-friendly interface and low learning curve.

5.  No Limit on number of computers it can be installed on (I have four currently which are used for designing).

As I get involved with using it (later this week, after delivery and installation) I'll offer further comments and reviews.

Are you sure about this one?   I can't use my Pro version on multiple computers.

Yep.

From the description on the website ---

  • Licensing

While cutting with VinylMaster Cut is limited to one user, use of the software is available to unlimited users.

Your design team...and vinyl cutter specialist can all collaborate using one license and send the cutting file to the computer connected to your cutter when it's time to actually cut the job. This allows you to design and work from any location.

You think the design area is neat & tidy, you should see the sign-assembly portion ----  (12-foot-length weeding/taping/dropping table)

I can run xpt on dozens of pcs BUT you cannot cut, export or print from them only the one activated at the time. You can save in native format though to open at your cut station so it basically gives you limitless design stations.

Another good reason for having this software is the Text-Along-Path feature, which SignBlazer doesn't handle  (it is greyed-out in the Elements version we use, because it was an item only for the HotShot/Pro version).

And, unlike SCAL, the VMC program allows for multiple lines of text by just hitting the ENTER/RETURN key.

I never understood why SCAL did not get that.

That's my problem.  I need to be able to export as a .plt to while on my laptop in the garage to send to the laser.

Damn i got excited for a sec.

What you need to do is buy the cheapest version you can to run on the laptop. I would think that would do it but more homework may be required.

So will this work by itself or is it a upgrade if you already have it which I dont?

Is this upgrade worth it over my scalps 4 software for $30?  is it better or a waiste of money.I use Ai to design in and scalps 4  for doing shadows or minimal tweaks etc and to cut final project. Thanks

System Requirements
  • Pentium processor-based PC or compatible computer (Windows)
  • Windows XP/Vista/7/8 (Windows)
  • 512 MB of RAM or more
  • At least 50 MB of available hard disk space
  • USB Port 1.1 or 2.x

Would think if it was an upgrade it would say a previous version of the software would be needed.

I believe US Cutter is offering it to those who have purchased cutters from them.

This is an Upgrade for the programs we are now using (like SignBlazer etc).

...not a Vinyl Master upgrade requiring a previous version.

Customer Service told me the $30 was a special email offer for US Cutter

customers.  If you go to the website the price is $59.95.

"If you go to the website the price is $59.95"

The main page of their website has a huge banner ad right across the top, and clicking on that sends you to the promotional pricing page.

As well, on the front page of this Forum, there's an ad which offers this deal. Click on it and you're there.

Anyone can take advantage of the $30 pricing, all you need is to have a USCUTTER account.

Also, I highly recommend that you bundle other items that you normally order (vinyl materials, banner blanks, app tape, coroplast, etc.) so the $9.99 flat shipping charge covers all the things you need, and not just the $30 program (making it $40 !!!)

In answer to your question, PrimalDecals, I'm thinking the answer is a resounding YES !!

USCUTTER knows very well that SCAL'pro' is not the ideal solution for their customers, and have apparently worked with VinylMasterCut to place this nice program into the hands of those who are frustrated or disappointed with that clunky CraftEdge product.

There's a free demo version (no saving/exporting/cutting) that people can utilize to assess their interest in going this route.

I didn't even bother with checking it out with a demo trial, and went ahead and already ordered the full version sight unseen (based on the screen shots and description).

Of course, taking a 'test drive' is an option that you might want to pursue !!

YMMV.

:) I couldn't ascertain whether the dead head skull was in the 'Cut' package. It is definitely in the Pro.

You could save as a 'vDoc' (Vm's native format) and open it at your other (cutting) station with

the activated version of Vm then Save as> a .plt file and cut from there.
