Pricing help for my first time

Recommended Posts

This will be my first sign for a business. The two decals will be 24" x 48" one color on a two sided sign. The sign looks easy to apply on because the semi clear plastic panels slide out of the frame on each side so I can take them back to my shop and do the application there. I have no clue on what to price the two sign decals though and the job labor. I have done many window decals on doors but nothing on someone's sign or of this size. Any help is very appreciated. Thanks

If this is an illuminated sign you will want to use translucent vinyl so the light will come through.

You are asking for a number from people who have no idea the particulars of the job.

To name a few:

How much travel time to and from?

Do you have to clean off the old graphic?

Is the substrate in good enough shape to re-use or will it need replaced?

Once you get the graphic off is the new graphic going to be in a different place causing a ghost image where the old one was?

What are you paying for the vinyl?

Are you buying any extra in case you blow it?

How long will it take you to do this work?

How much do you charge for your time?

What do you want your profit margin to be?

There are probably several I missed.

If you can answer these questions then you can probably do the math and figure the price out.

The sign was once an illuminated sign but the new owners don't care and didn't know it lit up. The job is only 15 minutes away and the substrate looks good. The guy is even going to take the panels off for me to just pick up. Yes it has an old vinyl graphic that is already peeling off. I don't think there will be a ghost image after the old graphic comes off unless they light the sign later on.

I own an operate an appliance business and have for 24 years. My shop labor rate for appliance work is $60 an hour. I'm only asking because they are friends and they're trying to start their business and save a few bucks so they asked me since I made there window decals/car decals.

I will need to buy a roll of 24" 951 in black to do the job.

Well your going to be what $70 into the roll of vinyl (You can buy 751 by the yard and save more but if you are like me you will use the black up later on something. I'd guess 3 or 4 hours of total time with cleaning, cut and wrap, and install you are looking at cost of about $200 but if they are friends you could be donating your time and hard materials would be more like $25 so it's a wide open answer.
