Flex10 production manager does not list my cutter (PCut CB73)

Recommended Posts

Hi guys

Total noobie trying to setup my first cutter. I've got the software installed, and I can create a test image etc.

However, I'm having real problems trying to get "production manager" to list the cutter I've got (it doesn't!).

The only option I've got is "LiYu Cut".

I read a guide (here: http://start.uscutter.com/pcut/xp/flexi) about installing the USCutter Flexi Driver pack and how to install it, but the instructions may be out of date as I have no SAI folder, and the only folders with the csm files in are individual language folders. Notably, the "English" folder only had the Liyucut csm file in there, so when I added the USCutter file I thought it would at least list USCutters in the "Production Manager", alas not. I still get the same list. Looking in the other language folders, there are lots of csm files, it's just the English folder that only had the one LiYucut csm file.

Basically, I'm completely stumped. I guess I need some form of file to let Flex10 know I've got this cutter, but I don't know where to put it or what to do next.

I'm running windows 8 64 bit if it's of any importance.

Full product details from the CD case are : [1325] FlexSTARTER Liyu/Refine Edition

Thanks for any help you might give in advance.

Ross

You may be limited by the Flexi starter version that you have, As it was only sold for limited cutters... Such as the Liyu and Refine.

It can be a daunting task to learn EVERYTHING at once with no background knowledge. If I may ask, what program are you planning to design in? I may be wrong but believe Flexi 10 is a fairly dumbed down version mostly used to open and cut files generated elsewhere. Maybe I'm thinking of a different version though.

You are correct,  your not thinking of a different version,, But there are Flexistarter versions that are only for Liyu,Refine.Creation..  They are usually sold with those vinyl cutters.  I have a version of Flexistarter 7.6 that was sold with my Seiki and only has the Seiki drivers with it..   These versions are sold cheaper so the suppliers can include them with the vinyl cutters. for FREE.....  They are not ALL CUTTER    Version... But just because Creation is listed, it does not mean that all the drivers are there,,  Creation has a lot of different models...  And even when he downloads the Flexi driver pack,,,It will probably only include the drivers for the models that UScutter sold...

More than likely he has similar..

And although I do use Flexistarter,  I also have Flexidesigner, as well as  CS2....(with the book even)  LOL

Well I thought so but wasn't sure. I only brought it up seeing as he appears to be very new to the whole concept and may not realize he won't be able to be cutting jpeg files off the internet. Ha ha!

To the OP - Ross, you may want to download Inkscape and familiarize yourself with the world of vector graphics. Inkscape is a free open source program that is probably the best bang for the buck anywhere. I realize you are probably getting hit smack in the face by a 300lb gorilla every time you turn around but it will all make sense as you forge ahead. At first it's like waking up in a completely black room and trying to figure out where the door is.

wow thanks so much for the overwhelming support from everyone - really appreciated :)

Yes I really have no idea what I'm doing and am just trying to make a few stickers for myself and friends - no professional interest at all - so I'm stmbling along trying to learn right now :D

I have emailed SAI about the software I have - I believe the seller who I bought it from (second hand) cannot have used it as SAI have told me it is limited to the LiYuCut machines only. So it looks like I'll need some new software. :(

I will try Inkscape or Abobe Illustrator on a trial perhaps, and get my head around the vector graphics (although I've reasonable skills in photoshop I've little in anything else!)

My goal to start with was to cut some simple, text only, stickers. I may have set my  own bar too high with even that!

Thanks again all for the help - I was nervous of asking but the support is awesome!

Inkscape and illustrator are design only programs.you still need something to actually run the cutter and signblazer is the, only free program that comes to mind for that and its a fairly capable design program as well.
