If the customer is not set on that design I'd suggest changing the white rim to black and putting a white outline around the red rather than black.

For install only, I would charge him at least $50. There are several colors and it's decent sized so hopefully you can knock it out in an hour. If he squeaks at that just pass and remind him that your install price includes replacement of the graphic if you bungle it whereas he'll have to pay you for another one if he messes it up.

I understood the job just gave you my estimate on the install. I'd probably want to get $100 or so from the vinyl if it's going to be intermediate like Oracal 651. Bear in mind my area is fairly cheap compared to a lot of other places in the country.

Before even thinking about installing it, I get info on the paint he's using. You don't want to install on something that has known issues with vinyl adhesion. Also paint needs to be fully cured before installation.

I think I read somewhere to charge 2X the cost of the vinyl for installation. Is this accurate? If the decal cost $24 to produce then the install would cost $48 and the total production and installation would be $72 ($24 + $48). Would this be accurate?

Never heard that one. Every job is different so it's hard to lump the pricing together like that.

Figure out how many square inches of vinyl you will be using and multiply by .04-.05. Charge a reasonable amount for design time and install time. Mechanics around here charge $60-100 hour, plus a hefty markup on the parts. He can afford it.

Sorry guys, been out of town.. I ended up doing the job  for $525  using oracal 751 applying to 2 ea 4x8 pre-painted and he was very happy with it and wants more work as well...I told him that painting the supplied sign only being dry for 2-3 days could give a problem with the vinyl and he said put it on anyway that he isnt worried , so i had to make sure he understood that if anything happens its not on me and said he understood..So in the end and after a week or two the material is still holding strong...Than you everyone for your input..Everything helps..
