dirtrocker 60 Posted April 30, 2015 What blend works best with sublimation? The reason I ask is Wally World has 50/50 T-shirt 12 for $25.99 But not having done any shirts, I see a lot of places selling 100% polyester for sublimation. So has anyone tried the 50/50 shirts? mb20music 760 Posted April 30, 2015 50/50 shirts won't get you super quality results with dye sub.
MadHatterGraphix 1,258 Posted April 30, 2015 100% polyester is the best for sublimation. You can buy 50/50 blends and it will give a wash out or vintage lool. Since your getting the dye press starter kit they have a coating you mix and spray or paint it on the 50/50 to make it act like 100% polyester.
Dakotagrafx 7,297 Posted April 30, 2015 like said above the ink will only adhere to the poly threads after a washing so it will look very old and washed out. sublimation ink turns to a gas when heated and dyes the polyester threads permanently - it cannot dye the cotton threads
OWJones 1,981 Posted April 30, 2015 Sublimated ink will only permanently adhere to polyester (and a few other non-natural fibers), so it will only stick to the polyester strands in a mixed fiber shirt. If it's a true 50/50, then your transfer will end up looking like you applied a 50% transparency to it. It may look good when you take it out of the press, but once you throw it in the wash, any un-bonded ink will wash away and leave it looking faded.
