Do you have a seperate computer?

Recommended Posts

I decided I wanted a seperate computer for the sub stuff.
So since I tend to spend more time than I really should looking for the specific stuff I want, I searched everywhere, had notes all over and just couldn't decide on what I wanted.

So I decided to take a break from looking and get some work tools ordered up that I needed and worry about it later. So in searching for my air tools, I came across a refurbished system that looked really good.

A refurbished Dell Optiplex Intel Dual- Core 3.4Ghz CPU, 4GB DDR2 Memory, 1TB Hard Drive, WiFi, DVD/CD-RW Optical Drive, Microsoft Windows 7 Home Premium Operating System. With mouse, keyboard and 17" Dell monitor and 1 year warranty for $179 + $24 shipping.

It was so hard to pass up, I didn't pass it up. LOL!

While it isn't one I would play a game like World of Warcrack on, I think it will be quite sufficient for the sublimation stuff.

I can run Flexi, Corel, Illustrator and all that on it and it shouldn't be a problem.

Granted, I would have preferred a bigger moniter, but once the wife has to use it a couple times and finds out the difference between her 24" dual monitors and that, I don't think it will take much convincing for her to let me get a better sized monitor. ROFL!

I personally don't have a separate computer for anything business related, I have separate folders and back ups. My computers are 1 Laptop Samsung AMD Quad Core with DVD read/writer. nothing to fancy. My computer is am AMD Hex core 3.5ghz OC to 4.0ghz, 16gb ddr3 ram, a Samsun SSD 256 for main drive (windows) and a 2TB HDD for storage, with 2 Blu-ray burner/reader 3D. And a Gforce 560TI graphics card. And numerous external HDDs, and thumb drives.

I'm a little concerned about the graphics card on this one I'm getting.
It only has a Radeon 1 GB graphics card.
It should be enough for what I want to do, but I might go with a GeForce 4 GB.
I hate having memory issues with graphics cards.

If your using it for just making artwork 1gb should be fine. Its not graphic intense like video editing and gaming. I built mine originally for video editing and gaming. However my PS4 took the gaming from it and my dreams of being a videographer hasn't worked out. Never can find cheap talent lol.

I have a design computer - a separate cutter computer, separate printer computer and a home theatre computer that is a back up of the printer computer in case of a falure (been there done that and loved having a back up)

Yep, still have my XP machine running the printer. Seems they didn't write any drivers for WIN 7. They said the Vista drivers would work, maybe 'they' could get them to work, I couldn't.

I have my primary design computer on the main floor of my house.   In my workshop room, I have a recent model laptop connected to my cutter and my dye sub printer.  Both computers connect to a shared network drive where I keep my clipart and designs so everything is available to either machine.

I use my primary computer for other stuff - gaming, web surfing, etc. - the laptop is just for "work".

Interesting. Never thought about a network share drive.

That is something to consider.
