Primal Decals

This is the donated job for the vets, need help

Recommended Posts

Hope i posted this in the correct area.....All vinyls has been removed ,So i am currently donating my time and they are buying the material. The problem is ,they were to get the sides painted at a local shop so i can apply the new decals etc but the cost to have the paint done was more than was in thier budget and they are asking me if i can do vinyl on the sides at 24"t by the length needed,Ive never done large solid pieces before and im not sure if i should attempt it or not since i havent ventured into this area yet.I will have to trim around the lower portion of the windows which is roughly a couple inches,So im looking for your advice on install or should i just tell them i cant do it? Thanks for your help.

I honestly think it would look better to just put it on that paint. The side would probably look much more off if you did only that one section in vinyl.

Possibly tape it up and rattlecan it with a good quality paint

Don't see any problem. Lay it out, measure a couple times, cut it, and stick it. Cut the graphics into manageable sections. 'Grab em', and go for it. It's just vinyl, not like paint, if you make a boo-boo, remove the boo-boo, cut a new piece, carry on.

Thanks Guys..Just to clarify just in case, they dont want the white sides unless needed.,,They want the sides in a Blue color from the window seams down to the lower seam, the original plan was to have the whole sides top to bottom painted  and then have the graphics put on below the windows,,, but now they are trying to put it on me if possible.the designs are not  going to be the same that was on there before, 75% change to something different.

It sounds like they are taking advantage of your generosity. It went from a simple job to a complex mess. Just remember your reputation is on the line.

If you don't think you can do it, be honest and tell them this project might be a little more then your expertise will allow and move on.

Flat area, not a lot of taping and a solid color in single stage acrylic enamel shouldn't take a paint shop any time to knock it out.
In fact, it would probably take longer for prep sanding and drying time than the actual painting.

Or as Jay said, rattlecan paint would work. I'd use a quality rattlecan like Duplicolor or Krylon though.

Or if you are ambitious, would wrap work for that area?

That is a huge area to do with straight vinyl, I would think.

Personally, if you are donating the time and materials, if it were me, I'd tell them to let me know when the prep work is done and then call. Just my opinion.

Sounds to me like the paint shop wasn't cutting them as good of a deal as you.

Free labor is hard to beat. Now they are just taking advantage of you.

Like Dirtrocker mentioned and I neglected Duplicolor is the best spray paint I have ever used. Painted a whole car with it once before I bought a spray gun.

So I have to ask....

They want those sections in blue paint. But the tops of the flag ribbon (or what ever you want to call it) is blue and the upper wording is blue. Isn't that going to look........ well........ terrible?

Will you even be able to see the lettering?

Sorry, there was something odd about the blue on blue and I had to ask.
