Random lines cut when cutting and support has no clue...

Recommended Posts

Hi guys,

I was cutting a sheet of vinyl 20x15in and i notice when it was about half way threw cutting it cut a line threw the center and and in a few other spots several times. I'm using sure cuts a lot and my cutter is on a wood stand grounded and the model is the SC. After wasting 5 feet up heat transfer and basically throwing money away it still did it! And it also just loves stopping mid cut! After contacting customers service i explained the issue and was assured several times a call back but those calls never came..No offense to the staff but they seem to be clueless about they're products. i don't know if it's the cutter or what but this is my second SC because the first one came used(yes i ordered a new one so i thought) but it also came broke just like my current machine but i had to fix it. At this point i'm just looking for help from someone to fix this issue. I honesty thought USCutter would stand behind their products and value they're customers but as it looks it unfortunately doesn't look like that.

Heat transfer vinyl creates a lot of static...That static goes to the carriage head.  No matter on a wood surface or not...Many people have this problem in the winter.  Try spraying some Static Guard,, use dryer sheets on the cutter and the vinyl...Put a dryer sheet in the vinyl roll.   You cannot blame the cutter for static problems...Static is normal in this business.. You have less problems with the higher end cutters...

Also if you have this cutter on a USB connection, it has been posted here a zillion times to put your cutter on a serial cable,  serial card or a Tripplite Keyspan Adapter.  It is a better connection.

Wipe the vinyl down with the dryer sheets.  Wipe your cutter...A humidifier in the room can help... Spray Static Guard in the room in the area.

Does the same thing happen,  if you raise the blade,  raise the blade holder (just as a test)  or use the pen?   If not, then it is static.

Try a different software.  A lot of people have problems with SCALP.  Give Signblazer a try.  Use the Liyu driver.  That is what your cutter is...It is FREE

Slice and Dice has posted it to many times to count..

And you do have enough vinyl pulled from the roll to do the order correct?...Should never be pulling from a roll.  Try a different cable.  Many have fixed their cutters with a Tripplite Keyspan Adapter.  It controls the data better. on value cutters. ..and does not overload the cutter on value cutters.

This might be a long shot but check the graphic that you're trying to cut, in wireframe mode. Just to be sure there aren't any stray nodes.

Yea i always check over it  a few times and nothing ever shows up i didn't want on.

another long shot.

Make sure you serial cable is not near any power (hydro) cables.

Have you also tried a different computer?  Or even a friends/relatives house?   We had a guy several years ago, that could not make his vinyl cutter to work right from his home, He tried several different vinyl cutters that UScutter sent him...  But when he took it to his Mom's house 10 miles away, it always worked fine...Something to do with the wiring in his home....this forum member   MaderDesign, It was not that the cutter didn't work, but the lines were like stair steps...not straight on every cutter sent to him..Some kind of interference in his home wiring...newer home too.

If your cutter is on a wood stand how are you feeding your vinyl roll? You said the cutter is grounded ,which all cutter are grounded thru the plug, but wondering how any static build up in the vinyl roll dissipates if not thru a metal roller and metal stand. Trying to wrap my head around your set up to help you

I pre cut the roll. My set up is on a wooden top and metal on the button and it is on a wood floor.I have the cutter grounded with the wire they send you and that is attached to the stand and the other end to the cutter. I wipe the heck out of the machine with dryer cloths and i also have the anti static spray and a very good ground.

well - that short piece of pre cut vinyl shouldn't be storing that much of a punch of static.

I don't remember the sc having real memory problems like the mh series - so second thought  was too many nodes and memory  - anyone out there with a sc ever have trouble with that?

Can we re talk about the connection?  You said serial..... Serial from computer and serial into cutter?  Not USB from printer to serial of cutter right?

Have you tried cutting other things/designs.  For example... something maybe a little smaller to stop wasting large pieces of vinyl.  How about taking your current project and shrinking it down.  See if it still happens using less vinyl.

I have the SC and I feel your pain.  Especially when first starting out and all you wanna do is make a little money to get back to even and cover all that up front outta pocket!

To me back then, every inch of vinyl wasted felt like a 20 dollar bill.

Oh, and for the record... I had the same problem when I got my SC..... I went round and round and my head was about to explode.  I didn't listen CLOSELY to the help I was given.  For example.... (for me) USB from computer to a TrippLite USB adapter then a null modem cable to printer serial.. (I think that is right..... Skeeter?  Null right?)

Anyway.... I bet we get you running eventually!

yes you need a null modem cable to the cutter from the Keyspan Adapter

If I remember correctly..... that was my issue.  I never paid attention to that and it getting my cutter to work was driving me nuts!

hey that helps the higher end hp laptops still have serial ports on them!  they got them at the prison for health care for that reason so they worked with the testing equipment!  go serial!  I always had a hard time considering any laptop high end - a laptop and desktop with same specs - the desktop will be twice as fast because of conses ions made for space savings - but back to the program  - that should have a serial port built in
